Things that frustrate us all

Got some things done for which I am happy with, but I am still having issues with my mail man so that document I was able to get out may not make it there. Instead of just not picking it up. More than once. He seems to take it but it doesn't get there. I have proof that i made out a check, but it was not cashed and there was more than enough time. I called the company and said it was never received. So, yeah when I get things done, I also have to count on my mail man. Unfortunately, this phone and online stuff has been going haywire. And my landlord does not have any of those things. Everything is by paper. So, I am very much relying on that for some things. I hope this isn't mail tampering out of spite because I called the PO.

If checks are involved, I'd call and make sure those previous checks are put on a stop payment. There is something called 'check washing' which is basically altering the check's numbers and person being sent to so criminals can cash it at a check cashing place. (This process DOES take some time.)

And whatever the situation, I'd get the Postal Police involved. They won't be much help, but you will at least have that on record for yourself if the checks do end up being cashed by someone.

I had this happen to me earlier this year with a dividend check from my old job. It got stolen from the mail. As soon as I discovered it was stolen, I called Publix up and told it was stolen and to reissue a new one. That whole situation was a nightmare, and reminded me of one of the reasons why I left them 20 years ago... complete inefficiency and lack of any sense. You would think the first thing a company would do as soon as someone says a check was stolen would be to put a stop payment on it. Not them, apparently... you have to TELL them that, despite calling them up and saying the check was stolen and having a check being reissued to you. What's worse, is that apparently a short time after I called them, they told me they couldn't send the reissue because the original was cashed. (They confirmed with me that it was NOT cashed, and said a reissue was on the way... said it would take a week. When that time went by and no check, I called back and then they tell me it was cashed.)

Obviously, I made a fraud claim. One of the things they needed was a police report, but the police don't do mail theft. (They refer you to the Postal Police, which I forgot was a thing.) Called them, got the 'report', but it was rather useless... had to go to the branch and talk to the manager. At least she was helpful and was able to indicate on a report that a string of thefts have happened during that time in the neighborhood. (She also told me about 'check washing'... I'd never even heard the term until that moment. Almost a certainty that is what happened with my check.) Called Publix back, sent them the report, and also even gave them some things to look at to make the investigation easier. (For example, my bank is a fairly unknown one, and I have been cashing those checks from the exact same branch location for over 20 years. That's a minimum of 80 previous checks to compare the newly cashed one with. One of the advantages of having a set routine in certain things is if one thing IS off, it's very easy to tell something is wrong.) I was told it could take a month, maybe two for this all to get resolved.

It took almost 7 MONTHS! I ended up having to hound them constantly (and ultimately Truist bank, because they deal with Publix and they were the ones investigating) after the fourth month... I thought I was trying to be fair by giving enough time to complete the investigation. Even with the (seemingly obvious) open-and-shut nature of my scenario.

My point in the story is please be proactive and get a Postal Report and check with the bank. People need to constantly be checked because many don't seem to want to do their damn jobs. I hope you have an easier outcome with your situation than I did.

Thanks, and I already contacted them once when he was not picking up my mail on and off for a month. Now it's being picked up, 'but now' one of the places I paid a bill did not cash a check and I called them, and they said they never received it, but I have proof that I made it out. So, this way he can tamper with my mail and nobody would know. He could just blame someone else. I put a stop payment on it just in case. But I am more afraid of retaliation from my mail carrier than thieves. Thats what I think it is more. Because the last time I reported him to the PO I even said I was worried about important documents and bills not getting to their places. I really need to get those documents to my landlord. Very important. My check is direct deposit. No one can steal it. At least not that way. So, I am lucky there. As for outcome, I am still waiting. Unfortunately, an important document you can't check with a bank. They needed it quickly too. Thanks for the good luck.

Seven months! Yikes! Sorry for what you had to go through, sounds like a nightmare. I would have been frazzled in that situation. I was coming close with these ongoing PO issues. Things can become so tangled these days. It seems sometimes as they are making things more convenient, things become complicated.

Swear that some of the ads here make the browser that I'm on crash. Like they're just too large for it to handle. I get the need for ads, but it's not cool when they overload things.
There are also the type of ads where they are over what you are trying to read, and you can't close them out. Or when they are hovering over the arrow, and you can't finish reading. It's not here at least. I am also grad I am not getting your problem.

Any pop up ad that takes a long time to load and suddenly moves text down so when you try to select a link, the link moves and you select a different link you didn't intend to select, that moves to the spot under the curser right at the moment you click the mouse.

Ordered something from the States this weekend. Fortunately they had lots of shipping options:

  • The cheapest shipping option said it could get it here in 2 to 3 business days
  • If I wanted to, I could pay an additional $23 to get it here in 2 to 3 business days
  • But for an additional $7 on top of that, I could instead get it here in 2 to 3 business days
  • But if I then add an additional $6 on to that, well, then I could have it here in 2 to 3 business days
  • But if I really wanted to go all out, then I could add yet another additional $15, and then I could get it here in 6 to 10 business days! :wtf:

Tough decision, that one...

That's insanity, but is more common than you think. I think that is up there because people don't really pay attention to those details when at the checkout portion of the order.

That's how the companies get many people.

I do all the time I check out. Amazingly enough, Amazon is cheapest shipping as default, but I always look just in case. I remember the really expensive stuff was overnight shipping. Now just to get a day earlier its the same as the cheapest. Even when it was like 7 days, I still picked that. Not worth it. The only time I spent money for overnight express was when I had to send something important.

Also, I lost my glasses today and I can't find them. I swear I put them on my nightstand, and I noted it because I was not putting them there anymore but leaving them in my living room. I chose to do it last night. I have a hard time seeing far away but not enough to be in danger. I'll just have to squint or look with my nose pressed to the microwave when I am making something etc. But still, I feel a bit vulnerable without them. They will probably turn up when I am not looking for them.

Or when you step or sit on them.

Yea those ads are annoying.

Fucking daylight saving time, it messes up my inner biological clock, I woke up at FIVE am!
Wait until you have to take a diuretic. The hydrochlorothiazide I take to reduce blood pressure keeps me heading to the bathroom. I go to bed between 1 to 3 am, then up an hour or two later to the bathroom, then again about 2 hours after that. Up to 4 or 5 times a night after I go to bed, I have to pee. I go right back to sleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. Being retired I can ignore the daylight saving B.S. In the winter I go to bed between midnight and 2 am. I only have to use an alarm on my cell phone for different doctor appointments.

I really wish doctor's offices would check their policies before they make an appointment. Back a couple months ago when I was trying to see if I could be evaluated for autism, the day before my appointment they called to say the doctor was sick, so they needed to reschedule, which I was fine with sense it was not his fault. But then all of a sudden when I was getting closer to the new appointment, they wanted to me to do the initial evaluation with one of a nurse or assistant, which I had already done, and then when I called them find out why they were starting the whole thing over again, the person looked, and it turned out the doctor didn't even see people my age at all. You'd think somewhere in the months that I was going through multiple pre-doctor evaluations and meeting with a case worker, that someone would have seen how old I was and realized that he didn't see people my age.
And now last week I was to get into a doctor to see what's going on with my current infection or kidney/bladder issues, and at first, I set up the appointment with a nurse practitioner who I had seen before about something that might or might not be part of this. I had explained I had gone to see a different doctor in a couple months ago when all of this first started, and they hadn't said anything, and then suddenly on the night before my appointment, they called and said the nurse practioner doesn't do follow ups, and I will have in to see the doctor I saw the first time and she won't be able to see me for another two weeks.
And I ended up aggravating the issues again, and now I've felt like crap all day.

I find it odd they didn't know your age, when the first thing, every Doctor's office I've ever called to set up an appointment has asked me for my date of birth and name.

I hope you can get your kidney and bladder issues taken care of. When I can't get in to see the doctor for some time, and I'm having difficulties, I will give urgent care a try.

It's tolerable now, but if it gets worse I probably will.
As for my age, they knew my age, they just apparently didn't bother to check if the doctor saw people my age.
The one thing that occurred to me is that maybe the Dr. was more than just "sick" and cut back on how patients he was seeing when he came back.

Ok, figure it out. No one needs it to still be daylight at nearly 9PM in July. It's nice outside. The day's over. Who cares? But it would be best for AM commutes, all thru October, to NOT be in the damn dark, while we wait to set our clocks back. By November, we only get a week or two of twilight back before it's dark every morning again anyhow. What did you achieve?

We could just enjoy more daylight on our morning commutes, uninterrupted. So, go ahead. Set the clocks back, and then LEAVE them that way... Forever. Give us back our daylight, permanently.

Your sincerely, Everyone's Aging Eyes
