Things that frustrate us all

Yeah. There is so often I feel that internal pressure and want to metaphorically beat my head against the wall.

Usually when I mow the lawn. At least that is somewhat productive.

Ah, mowing the lawn... always hated doing that, and always will. Mainly because of the weedwhacker. I have personally destroyed four over the years (at my old house) due to having to tap the ground to get more spool out. Apparently, I didn't know my own strength.

At the current house, we have one where the spool comes out on its own... makes it less aggravating. Still a pain in the ass to use, though, because it's battery powered and it never lasts long enough to do the entire yard, despite not having much of a yard to begin with. I end up just doing the front one day, then the back later on. (My wife actually suggested that, since she cares more about the appearance of the front than the back since we don't go there very often.)

Please, never do. Everybody's personal issues are different, but I'd still like to recommend a great 1970s movie in its entirety for anybody who might want support, reassurance or quality spoken words. So.....HARRY AND TONTO, if you're willing. It brought me through a funk, and I've had my share of them.
Thank you for the encouragement. It's hard right now for a huge variety of factors that I'll only share in brief. My wife and I are building a house, costs of materials keeps going up, things break (ride-on mower most recently), and my wife struggles with sleep issues (whole other rant). So, it takes a lot for me to not just get so worn down.

Thank you for the movie suggestion. it's funny you say "Never give up." When my wife and I get married (15 years ago now). We did a dance where all the married couples were asked to dance, and slowly we would eliminate couples based on length of time being married. My aunt and uncle were the longest married (55 years) and we asked them for one piece of advice and they said "Never give up." Sticks with me.

Well, my "lawn" is a 5 acre plot that I just walk around for 30 minutes and knock stuff down. I have definitely broken a couple of trimmers though.

. . . Argh of the day: I live almost next door to the local university and they just announced that their dreaded (because unbearably loud) annual campus open air has been extended from the usual weekend to a full 5 nights this year!
When I read this post, I thought "Open air what?" Now I know it's a music festival. Apparently a German thing.

Another movie suggestion is The Money Pit with Tom Hanks and Shelly Long.

In-laws.

Watching some reaction videos and this guy actually used the word "ep--e--tohm."

It took me a few seconds to figure out he meant "epitome," as in, "Open Arms is the epitome of the power ballad."

Ep-e-tohm. For fuck's sake.

:vulcan:
A friend of mine used to say it that way because he'd only ever read the word, not heard it said.

Do not take Epitohm if you are allergic to it, or can spell the word 'allergic'. Side effects include nausea, vomiting, sleepiness, spontaneous decapitation, lung flukes, addiction to Neil Diamond, and turning into a lemur.

Ask your doctor if Epitohm is right for you!

:guffaw::guffaw:

Love it!

It really sounds just like those ridiculous drug ads.

When I was young, it wasn't uncommon for me to encounter a word in print well before I heard it spoken, and wouldn't realize until much later that my pronunciation of the word was wrong. I don't remember all such instances off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure "epitome" was probably one of them. And of course I had similar issues with other words that ended in an e that was pronounced with the long-e sound, such as "hyperbole" and "calliope".

English is weird.
