Never mind speaking Japanese, I find it impossible to READ. It's why I haven't yet taken a trip to Japan. I'd be lost all day.

If you think written Japanese is difficult, apparently Chinese is even harder, because there are far more characters than Japanese.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to take a trip to Tokyo and see some baseball (plus I really, really need to try okonomiyaki 
). I suppose it's likely that signs in bus & subway stations and things like that, would still have English on them. My nephew has been there and he doesn't read Japanese either so what the hell am I worried about.

It drives me crazy when people go flying past on bikes while we're out walking the dogs on the multiuse paths out here and don't give any kind of warning. It happened again last week, and I was just about to let Gracie back onto the path, so if she had finished crapping just a few second earlier, he probably would have run into her. There was no way he could have stopped in time as fast as he was going. It's gotten to the point where we just spend the whole walk constantly glancing behind us to make sure no bikes are coming.
And the horseback riders I know have said cyclists do the same thing to them, which is just insane to me. If the horse spooks and throws the rider and runs off, it could be fatal for any one of them.
I always announce myself and slow down at least a little any time I pass anyone while I'm out on my bike. How much I slow down depends on if it's just a person/people, if they a dog/s or if they are riding/walking a horse/s. I also usually ask if the horse is OK with me going past if I don't know it.

A friend of mine has lived in Japan and run a small brewery in Osaka for something like eight or nine years. He knows only the barest hint of Japanese and still can't read hiragana, katakana or kanji well at all, and he gets by just fine.
Scheduling. The amount of travel, coordination and scheduling I am doing for the next three weeks hurts my brain. I get so tired of balancing multiple schedules.

This is not a frustration... more of a situation where my mind is just blown away.
I received a text from my cell phone provider that starting in August, we will have a THIRD area code.
For 50 years, Miami only had the one area code. (From what I understand, it was the same code as the entire state.) I remember in 1998 when we got the second area code, and it was kind of a big deal. It was sort of a game with many people if you had the old school code or the new one. (And yes, I still have the old school code... I have never changed my cell number in 26 years, and my house number has been the same since my family got the house in the 60s.)
Now, barely 25 years later, we have another area code? That's another indication of a growing population, besides the other obvious signs. I figured we might get a new one due to the huge population increase, but I never expected to see it happen so soon... another 10, 15 years at least.
It just boggled my mind when I read that. It also makes me feel even older, being the only person I know who still has the old school code.

Houston has four area codes, the last one came in 2021. Never thought about it one way or another.
Area codes are one of those funny little things that I just find fascinating. I live in Idaho and Idaho has had the same area code for the entire state since 1947. Until 2015 when the FCC and Idaho Public Utilities Commission authorized a second one to start up and cover the more populated areas, like Boise.
1947... yes, that's when Florida got the area code that was eventually used only for Miami.
The Phoenix Metro area had 1 area code when I moved here in 1984. Now it has 3. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a 4th soon.
