Things that frustrate us all

"Hey neighbor, whaaaaaaaaaat's happening? Yeah, I'm gonna need you to keep your cat from shitting on my lawn, that would be great."

And don't forget the suspenders.

I'm not into any of those, either, but I can understand them somewhat.

Fishing - supposed to be relaxing, just enjoying the day. I did this once with my best friend... I just found it rather boring. I caught one fish after about 20 minutes or so... then nothing for the next 2 hours. Had good beer, though, and some laughs. (Maybe that's the whole point. This was over 20 years ago and I was much less prone to just sit and relax.)

Hunting - there's more skill to this than one thinks. Depending on the prey, of course. I'm guessing it's an attempt to retune those lost basic instincts that many humans have abandoned. Things like listening to animals for clues of danger, knowing your terrain, using just raw instinct, the sun, and the wind to guide you.

Shooting - I've only been to the range once, but I can tell you it does give you a rush of power. Not something I'd want to do on a regular basis, though... I feel that's only for defensive purposes.

A lot of this is probably because I'm just not a nature person. I respect nature and find it lovely, but I just DO NOT do well out in the sun.

Night time, however, I'm good. Darkness can be your friend.

It's funny. I went to a range over the weekend, and have not done that in 20 plus years. I got to use a couple of different firearms and learned a couple of things. One, I didn't hurt myself, i.e. feel sore for not doing my stance right, or taking the kick, or burn myself from the hot brass. Two, there is a lot more skill to it than I realized. I didn't get the power rush, but I did like taking my time, identifying my target and making my adjustments. I also shot clay pigeons and had fun as I had never done before. Again, it reflected a measure of skill that I did not think I had.

As for hunting, I would use it in a survival scenario, and would learn the appropriate skills. But, the money alone for equipment and tags is not something I can afford right now.

Fishing...no thanks.

I love the outdoors though.

Not in my case, it can't.

I am definitely not a night person. I wake up early and I go to bed early. The night is NOT my friend.

Part of it is because I'm just not into "the night life". Even when I go on vacation I always go to bed fairly early. I don't go pub crawling or anything like that (not in cities, anyway; I have been known to pub crawl in airports  ). If I'm coming back from a baseball game I'm usually just too damn TIRED to go out.

I'm the opposite... I do not do well with light. My eyes are sensitive to sunlight. And I am horrible with heat. Darkness has been my pal for many, many years.

Wish our recently new neighbours cat would stop crapping on our front lawn.

Maybe I should go introduce myself with a bag full of it.
We have a few cats that wander our neighborhood, we don't know if someone owns them or if they're just feral at this point, but one of them has taken to crapping right next to the new ocotillo my mom got a few months ago, and then burying it. But since we don't know which cat it is or who owns it, we can't really stop it.

Posting in another thread an experience I had years ago reminded me of something that bothers me...

When people business cards/laminated cards in the crevice of your driver window. (Or passenger... they do that, too.)

If that is there and it rains, and due to the humidity here, those cards essentially dissolve and melted into the crevice. Damned difficult to clean.

I don't like people just messing with my stuff. I was raised to not touch other people's property casually without permission. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect other people to have a similar level of respect for others' stuff.

Hell, if you're going to do a commercial for your business like that, at least put it by the windshield wiper where it won't be as difficult to clean. Not potentially cause a damned mess.

Here's one that just happened minutes ago...

l just got a voicemail from some 'debt advantage program', saying I have a preapproved credit line for them.

I never called them first or sought them out, but I called them back previously to take me off their calling list. This was last Thursday. And it was the FIFTH TIME I told them to take me off and stop calling.

I have also noticed sometimes when you take yourself off an email list, you still get them... weeks later.

What the hell is wrong with people?! Off the list means off the fucking list!

argh! I go caught in a Murphy-onic field again! My week so far:
Thursday: open night for all shops. Extremely loud linedance performance next door. Could sleep only with ear plugs plus heavy-duty ear protectors
Friday: house got burgled
Saturday: roof leaked
Sunday: hordes of drunk ran riot around my house. Really scary!
Monday: local bicycling challenge started - the rioters damaged my bicycle and the front wheel got bent
Tuesday: was supposed to sample 2 rivers but due to flooding and extremely rapid torrent it was too risky and had to postponed. Janitor didn't mend roof yet.
Today: close friend revealed that he'll die within the year. We are both in Starfleet and I am the USS Columbia's counselor, so I have even 2 reasons do my best to cheer him up and prove his doctor utterly and thoroughly wrong. Never underestimate the power of positive thinking: my aunt was diagnosed with terminal cancer, given 3 months and lived 3 1/2 years. So there, doctors! :nyah:

Only positive things this week:
Yesterday, my bicycle mechanic immediately gave my poor injured bike an appointment plus during the repairs I can borrow an excellent bicycle - for free!
And Columbia's "ComLink" got an award for best quarterly newsletter in Star Fleet's Region 1 =) (yes, I know, I hail from Region 2 but since my friend is from region 1 I joined his ship and my fellow crew members are the nicest people you can imagine =) ).
