Things that frustrate us all

^that sucks indeed. Had the same prob last night. The cloud has a silver lining, though: hypoglucemia is a medical indication for eating a few chocolate cookies =) No diabetologist can object to that therapy :D
My ipod is acting up. :( The headphone jack has been on the fritz for awhile now and is now occasionally making it pause randomly.
Have you tried a different pair of headphones? If it's only the jack, the problem shouldn't appear when you use other phones.
If the prob persists with new headphones it's the socket. Rather frequently one of the socket's soldering points breaks or works loose because there's always a small push or tug on the socket every time you plug and unplug the headphones. That's just a 5 minute repair and won't cost much. I'm performing that surgery pretty frequently on my mp3 players. :D

This may be a slight difference in language. On this side of the Atlantic, at least, the term "jack" typically refers to the socket.

I believe we generally call the part on the headphones that goes into the jack, the plug.

thanks for the explanation! I only looked up jack and got a pic of the plug, so I didn't continue the search and assumed the opposite part of a plug would be called a socket as one always hears the phrase 'plugs and sockets'.
These colloquial terms are always tricky for us foreigners since they never show up in dictionaries.

Male/female part of the connector would perhaps have been less comfusing.
So of it's the male one, new headphones would suffice.
If it's the female one, it's propably just a soldering job.
Neither will be expensive.

Arn't you a type two, I know they can get hypos, but only when on certain medications and if they're not doing anything else to try and reverse the condition. - Although you show no indications of even trying to reverse it.

Your ignorance on this topic is showing, you should stop talking about things you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

One, Hypo's can kill and alot faster than from being Hyper/DK.

Two, in a pinch, a cookie will help, but only in a pinch. Yes they have Glucose in them, but the complex type, the type that the body takes longer to process. Instead, less complex types of glucose are needed straight away (for me anyway being on a infusion pump) such as Wine Gums to raise my Glucose levels and keep them up. On injections, something like toast or something like crackers would be needed about ten minutes later to stabilise Glucose levels and prevent the possibility of rebounding and having very high levels a few hours later.

This is all Hypo Treatment 101, something I was taught 20 years ago and hasn't changed much since (other than needing more lucozade as they've reduced the sugar content in them if that's someones go-to hypo treatment) and anyone with basic knowledge of dealing with them, especially a "diabetologist" would certainly object that treating a hypo with cookies is fucking stupid because the name of the "game" is to keep Glucose levels as stable as possible to prevent complications, not yo-yo all over the place and allow complications to be a foregone conclusion.

Oh and just an FYI, I'm taking your passive aggressive advice from another thread.

I did before, and the sound went out on the left side (note: this always happened with phones I've had before this issue started happening). Ran into some issues with previous phones before, sound wise (meaning occasional interference like sound when moving the phone jack around to get out of the way of something)... used to think it was just that the jack and socket itself needed to be cleaned, but lately it's getting worse.

I hope it's just that. It would be cheaper than having it be the drive of the ipod itself. That runs around $300 from what I've seen for the 160gb ipod classic. Even the battery runs for around the same price as replacing the socket.

that does indeed sound as if the 'female' part of the connection is damaged.
I've never disassembled an ipod and just learned that they don't use the standard parts (which on second thought was to be expected). I found a repair guide on youtube and it seems that the whole part must be exchanged which costs more than just soldering a lose part into place. However, it goes fast so that the overall price shouldn't be much about the price for the spare part.
Here's the yt-video:

When you talk, it is said that only about one-third of what you're saying is understood and that's why it is recommended to say the same things three times, only in different ways... It's frustrating to imagine that for two-thirds of the time you're basically talking to the walls...

I call Jack the "male" thing, not the "female" one, IE the thing that penetrates, not the one that's penetrated.

The thing about darkness is that after a while it starts to affect morale.

I am told that in the countries near the polar circle, the suicide rate in winter is staggering.

It’s true. The short overcast days of the winter months are miserable. It makes me long for the long hot happy days of summer, with the outdoor eating, iced drinks, and scant clothing.

It’s ten am, the curtains are open, but we still need the lights on.

I can confirm that to a certain extent for my region (48°N).
The suicide rate is particularly high in November when it's foggy. Interestingly, the rate of natural deaths rises as well. It seems to me that the will to live (or not to) is a factor many doctors underrate.
However, in December, when days are shortest and we have only about 6 hours of daylight, both the death and suicide rates drop significantly again. I think that's at least partly because we have so many uplifting and funny customs and rites in December and January. From kids going around singing and reciting poems to huge balls. Also, carnival starts at Nov 11th at 11:11 am here :) *glances at clock* - oh 11:19! Happy Carnival to everyone!

Losing my voice...again...
I'm so sorry :( (But I'm glad you have the use of all fingers for typing and chatting with us this way:) )What does your doctor say?

Free loaders. The ones that hang around in car parks, always short of eighty pence for a bus, but don’t bother to remember the faces of those they try to scam. This guy should know by now that I don’t carry cash. I’ve told him four times in the last year.

It’s a naff ploy too. The buses are contactless now, and none of the routes here would take much more than an hour to walk. And even if he were genuinely short of 80p, half a mile on foot would cover the shortfall.

How are their clothes? The scammers usually have good clothes, they're not the ones who live outside and really need the money.
