Things that frustrate us all

My favourite ice cream are those bitterly rich triple chocolate varieties, or the Old Jamaican, rum and raisin flavour.

Frustratingly, mine is a household of dairy intolerance, and ice cream is a distant happy dmemory.

I also miss the contrast of ice cold vanilla ice cream served with a piping hot apple strudel. Those were the days.
You may wish to try the ice cream that is made with coconut milk instead of dairy.

We will try that soon, when we have a freezer again. Coconut milk and cream makes its way in to a lot of our meals. Even made a convincing chocolate tart with coconut cream.

Oat milk is a wonder too. It’s a refreshing drink on its own, and it works in hot drinks, and even helps toward a creamy mash, Vitalite can turn the potato yellow.

For the first time in years, I hate Ice Cream today. It was ok but not great. Next time I'll go to one of our coffee shops that specialize in making elaborate Ice Cream.

Peach's frustration today:
Finding that your bill for dental coverage was not paid, even though you did online bill pay and got a confirmation that they received your payment! WTF?!!
ETA: Confirmed with my bank that there wasn't a declined payment attempt.

thank you! Now I finally can convert my American recipes and try them out.
Measuring butter in cups/ml seems rather complicated to me as it requires the butter to be very soft whereas for pie crust or shortbread you need very cold (and therefore hard) butter. In that respect our system of weighing it is perhaps a trifle more convenient.

That's why the sticks are so great, they're basically pre-measured!

Our high today was 6°C. No longer ice cream weather. :(

For the moment, I am an Ice cream convert... until I get tired of it, which will happen, soon if I eat a lot of it, much later if I eat it in moderate quantities. I know myself well.

More ice cream is eaten in the winter than summer. Or, at least was the case when I first heard it a couple of decades ago.

Interesting, I didn't know that. But my statement is still true for me personally. I get cold enough as it is, the last thing I want to do is eat frozen desserts when I'm already freezing! :)

same here :)
Apparently I'm still caught in the Murphyonic Field: my computer screen died 2 days ago. Fortunately, I have an old spare one at my office which I'll install tonight.
Unless I have to visit my parents today. The forecast says frost for Wednesday and a number of plants need protection. I'm not sure that's something two oldtimers can manage on their own. Gotta call them up later today.

My neighbor had a stroke last week. I didn't find out about it until yesterday. :(

They've been really good to me, and he's always nice when we see each other outside.

I guess he's home now and doing better, but damn. :(

Sad news. It is always sad to find out about the tragedies in the lives of those we share a street with. Hope hes doing ok.

We’ve lived on our street for 15 years, with a small break when the first baby came along, and we have watched from afar the families come and go, children grow up, and bring their own kids by, watched as the elderly got elderlier, seen the accessibility adjustments to their homes installed, before we stop seeing them at all. Even the old neighbourhood cats that came cheekily on the rob for scraps are all gone, leaving naught but their impression, the small differences they made.

I’m very frustrated af the moment. We’re in the process of moving, packed in fact, and living from boxes. But it has dragged on a lot. Our buyer has had enough and demanded an unrealistic date or they’ll withdraw. It could happen, but it’s pushing it. After the initial freak out, I find myself almost relieved. Our new house was a compromise, and needs a lot of work. It’s also lacking a drive. The new lender has been consistently shit and I don’t relish being contractually obliged to them.

Then of course there’s the history we have here. I still picture on the stairs, where my wife stood that day, swelling eyes beaming, face aglow, and waving a little white stick with two pink lines on it. Maybe I don’t want to move.

You should perhaps take a moment to calmly consider the whole situation. Ask yourself why you decided to move at all. What were the disadvantages of the old and the advantages of the new house? Maybe, if you look at both unbiasedly, you'll be able to make a final decision without any regrets.

Unless you were at home, happened to look out of the window and chanced to see the ambulance you had absolutely no way of knowing that he was taken ill. And his family would not have run around in all the neighbourhood to inform everyone. So you really mustn't feel guilty.
If he's back home after so short a time instead of being in hospital or rehab it's definitely a good sign. It must have been only a very mild stroke. He may have to alter his lifestyle a bit and then he could live another 20 years :) Plenty of time for you to show him how much you like him.
