Things that frustrate us all

TNZ actually doesn't frustrate me. The arguments can be epic but are generally respectful, and seeing as this is the Internet, you can just "walk away" when things get heated. After a while you can kind of predict where the flare ups are going to occur anyway, as most posters have their "hot button" issue.

Anyways, you know what frustrates me? Having to work 50 hours a week and being so tired when I get home that it is hard to muster up the energy to play with my son.

Ironically, the one place on this board which is NOT "neutral" has "Neutral" in the name. :vulcan:

As to the Obama/Obamacare thing, I agree with the poster who said, "not all Republicans are racist, but racists are Republican". I have found this to be very true, especially in my adopted home of rural North Carolina. :alienblush:

TNZ has become a much safer place to lurk and play recently. :)

I think what you have discovered in NC also applies to Northern Michigan. :(

^ I hate to admit it, being a Democrat, but there are racist Democrats. And racist members of other parties. And racist independents.

true story. :borg:
That's a most interesting analysis, Locutus. Frankly, I've never been to TNZ as I thought: "if discussions in MISC are already so heated, how badly a tone will prevail in TNZ then?!" But from what you say I gather it's quite the opposite, really?
.

This is only opinion, but I feel that TNZ has become one of the safest places to lurk and post for women and people of color.

TNZ posters will not tolerate the casual racism and sexism that permeates the internet. They will call out posters who offer offensive, foolish or even just ignorant thoughts and require rational defenses for those thoughts. It does get ugly when the offending poster cannot offer a cogent or reasonable defense. "That's just what I think" is not acceptable; facts and some knowledge about the subject are required by TNZizens. Their reputation for not suffering fools is well deserved and may be what seems so daunting to some. Don't enter armed with only vague thoughts or inclinations.

They're a pretty erudite bunch and I have learned a ton from them by mostly lurking over the past few years. And the entertainment value is pretty high, too.

Sure there is a lot of sexual humor there, but it seems pretty equally aimed to offend, and a lot of it is pretty self-deprecating.

I'd just like to say it's really gratifying to hear you say that and I am glad you find TNZ a welcoming, fun, inclusive place. :)

^ You're welcome! I didn't expect to like it after a 5 month layoff. Glad I came back.

Frustration: Exiting a store with your hands full and bums chasing after you from near the entrance wanting money. And they're better dressed than I am.

I am actually 34 years old but I am also mentally handicapped so I hope that explains more about the way I write things on here.

some more things that frustrate me:

Going to an amusement park and have people cut in front of you.

Not knowing your thread was emerged with someone else's!

Finding out you really like a certain thing to eat or drink that the store has and then that same store stops selling that food or drink!

Not being able to drive and having to rely on others to take or get you certain places

Taxis being late and my bowling coach getting after me because I'm late when she's the one who recommend them in the first place!

Taxi drivers asking for money when they should are supposed to already know I'm prepaid

Taxi drivers asking for your date of birth when they should already have all that stupid information down on me!

Misunderstanding what people have said and totally getting messed up!

Being Learning disabled and not feeling as smart as normal people

Yeah, but at least the bums appreciate the value of a buck. Compared to the fleecing I just took inside the store, ($8 for one lb of deli ham?!?!) a single dollar totally making someones day is a hella good deal.

"Misunderstanding what people have said" happens to all of us sometimes.

"Being Learning disabled and not feeling as smart as normal people". I think you are doing fine, spockkirk. You now have a new friend... me!

I think you misinterpreted Sector 7 there. It's quite a witty sentence and an almost irresistable verbal game which, I trust, everyone would have made, had they thought of it first. The smilie depicts a Vulcan raising an eyebrow at an illigocal statement and thus fits the remark very well, as it underlines the un-logic (pardon the bad English) which makes the statement so amusing in the first place. To me, at least, this particular smilie does not hold any hint of scepticism, criticism or other negatively intended -isms that you seem to attribute to it.
Perhaps we should ask Bonzie for her expertize as an impartial? She uses that smilie occasionally.
Thank you for understanding my intent, Rhubarbodendron. Locutus of Bored and Robert Maxwell have assumed malice where none was intended. I remember the days of the vulgar and, IMHO, barbaric TNZ; therefore, I had no desire to participate. Indeed, I used the option to not even see TNZ.

I must confess, I have always had an anger management problem, so I chose to stay away and keep my calm. Those who remember my early days on TrekBBS, know that I was easily baited (my early warnings are proof enough). This is the first and only board to which I belong. I had no idea there was a "new and improved" version of the forum. If I ever figure out how to "turn it back on", I may even peek in on TNZ.

I also have trouble with angry feelings as well. Is there a newer version of this board i don't know about?

What did I misunderstand, exactly? The only thing I "assumed" was that you had a negative impression of what goes on in TNZ based on ignorance of its current status. It's not an assumption since you clearly said (and reiterated here) that you have a negative impression of it based on its past reputation, and I know it's based on ignorance since you don't post there, which you just confirmed. I didn't think you were carrying out some kind of angry vendetta or anything, just that you were basing your opinion on a TNZ that isn't that way anymore and hasn't been in years. It's not a big deal, it's just a complaint that's frequently made about TNZ by people who don't post there, so me and Robert and Kim were trying to correct the impression.

Is there a newer version of this board i don't know about?

No. There's a hidden discussion forum here called The Neutral Zone for discussing politics, foreign affairs, social issues, and just general discussion. It has looser rules on flaming and so forth than the rest of the board. You have to opt-in to read TNZ in your User CP at the top left of the main page.

A TV marathon that is cut too short.

You're hungry and you go to the fridge and there's jack shite.

Loving someone but they just want to be friends.

When you drop your new phone and it cracks.

Thanks all for explaining about TNZ. I have occasionally lurked there during the Troll Wars in 2002 and was so disgusted that I never even thought of giving it so much as a glimpse now. But from your descriptions I might perhaps give it a try after all. After the weekend though.

Which leads me to my arrgh of the day: gotta spend an extended weekend with my parents, cutting back what they euphemistically call a hedge. As it hasn't been pruned in years I must use a saw - the stems are thicker than my wrist. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to discover a species of previousely unknown dinosaurs in there, or a distant cousin of Nessie.
And worst of all: it's a fir tree hedge. All prickly. It'll be like wrestling with rabid hedgehogs.

Make that two!! :)

I'm sorry, too, that our threads got merged but one must give it to Locutus that he did it in a fair way: he kept your thread title and used my name as thread starter. And who knows, maybe our thread will one day be the longest thread ever on this board. After all, everyone gets annoyed or frustrated occasionally.

I ordered a recycled computer from eBay, trying to both be green and save a little money. It arrived seriously damaged and non-functional. Fuck FedEx.

At least the seller is eager to make it right. They've already shipped a replacement and sent me a prepaid return shipping label for the bad one.

A frustration: having to wait over a month now for a replacement iPad that cannot be repaired by my local dealer, while my local dealer and Apple argue with each other over who is responsible for organising and paying for the courier delivery of the faulty unit back to Apple, without which Apple cannot then issue a replacement. Needless to say this has not happened and the unit has been waiting in the local dealer's to be picked up by a nonexistent courier job for nearly 3 weeks...

:sigh:

^ Yeah. That happens a lot. :(

There is a solution, not a perfect solution but YMMV: remain friends. It's better than not being friends. Or worse. :)

Our dog Nicki chewed a huge hole in Dee's slipper. I called and told her about and lucky she ended up laughing. Bad thing is I can't find the other slipper!
