Things that frustrate us all

One of my parents had major surgery and relatives are continuously giving out advice to the immediate family as to how to deal with it and help out. They mean well, but they're just saying the same things over and over again and it's so time-consuming.

God, I hate that. I have financial troubles because I'm furloughed so often and all I get it is "you should stop doing takeaway/ going to a restaurant" all I order from takeaway/restaurants are sandwiches!

How the fuck can it be more cheaper?! I'm already limiting my takeaway/ restaurant food to once a week! It is my guilty pleasure and it will remain that way!

Just got another one of those business solicitors who claim they're in the neighborhood doing work for Charlie and Betty down the street and want to offer me the same thing for a deal. I didn't want to slam the door on the guy's face, so I said we already had someone who does the same job, and he ignored it and continued with his pitch like he wasn't prepared to go off script. I declined two more times before he finally ended it and left.

But it looks like next door bought the pitch because their truck just pulled up out front.

I would have.

You are in no way obligated to be nice or even polite. Just say “No thank you” and shut the fucking door. Easy peasy.

It’s no different from hanging up on a telemarketer. I do that too. With pride.

These worked for me (Amazon link)

i guess simply shooting them is not an option

For a moment I thought you meant lawyers were cold calling until it clicked with the truck. It's rare to see door to door callers these days because everyone is paranoid about falling victim to scams so it's almost an automatic no regardless of how amazing the limited time offer is. If they're pushy with the hard sell and asking for signatures or money there and then without giving some breathing space to read the small print then that's even more reason to tell them I'm not interested. The worst ones are the smarmy types that talk to you as if they're your best friend.

The door-to-door types here that always use the "we're doing a job for Marcus down the street" line tend to be house and lawn type of businesses -- pest control, power cleaners and so forth. Once had two different pest control businesses in the neighborhood in the same week.

I had a similar issue a few months back.

I was clearly busy working on something outside, and this guy comes up (with 3 others on the edge of the street) trying to sell something. I told him 'not interested, good day' FOUR TIMES, with my last one having a VERY angry expression on my face. He actually had the nerve to say, "You're having a bad day today, huh?"

Seriously, dude? You come up to me on my property while I am clearly working, are told 4 times no but still stick around, and you think it's because I'm having a bad day?

No means no, moron.

WIth situations like that, both on the phone or in person, if I say I'm not interested and they keep going, I just hang up or shut the door in their face.
We have one of those, but it hasn't stopped anyone. I think most of the people around here don't know what "soliciting" means, a few years ago a guy came to the door selling something and my mom pointed to the sign he said that he "put it out". Apparently he thought soliciting meant smoking.

It's worked for me. I don't think more than a half dozen people have ignored it in the last five years it's been there. And for those I silently pointed at the sign and closed the door.

It has worked surprisingly well for me too. Only once or twice has the sign been ignored. Now I'm usually only bothered by the neighbor across the street who likes to borrow tools at the most inconvenient times.

Well, Arizona is #48 out of 50 in education, so.....

I hate littering. When we were walking our dogs through the neighborhood by one of the parks we go to all the time Gracie grabbed and ate something 5 times. So I'm thinking somebody must have been going along the path we take into and out of the park either on foot or horseback and dropping food or something as the went along. And it's not just this incident, everywhere go there are random bits of trash all over the place, and as a nature lover it makes me so mad every time I see it.
There was in incident in that neighborhood a year or two ago that pissed me off. When I was riding my bike through the neighborhood I ran into a group of about 5 or 6 girls and a guys riding horses (and yes I stopped to pet the horses) through the neighborhood and they almost all had drinks and snacks, and when I rode back thorough the next day all of the stuff they'd been eating and drinking was all over the ground, where they had apparently dropped it all as the finished it and just kept riding. The girls I talked when I stopped to the pet the horses were very nice, so it's not like they were horrible people, but it still makes me mad. In a situation like that if you brought it out with you, you should be able to just as easily bring the empties back with you. If you don't want to carry, then bring some saddle bags or backpacks or something to put it in when you finish.
Where we take our desert hikes, we constantly find broken beer bottle, deflated balloons, bullet casings and things like that. We try to grab what we can and toss it in the garbage in the park we go through to get to the desert, but the amount of it is just disgusting.
And now we found a new desert path that goes off a paved city trail, and there are tons of it back there too.

There are a few roads near my house that are on hills, and they have signs that say HILL BLOCKS VIEW.

Well, fucking DUH!!!

It's like when you see a bag of what are obviously peanuts and there's a warning tag that says "May contain nuts".

Why can't we just get rid of anything that doesn't pass the DUH factor? "Common sense" really needs to make a comeback.
