Things that frustrate us all

Why do slices of bread always fall on the side that's been smeared with butter and jam? Did you notice when you eat your breakfast and are wearing your best tie for an important meeting then the only particle of food that will ever be projected from your plate will go right on the tie.
Eat first, then dress.

Problem solved.

You asked a perfectly reasonable question
Reason at TrekBBS is something of a contradiction. Like honest politician ;)

My argh-moment today: the moths ate my warm woolen slippers. And there I kept wondering where the damned insects kept coming from all the summer. First thing I'll do on Monday is go to the market and buy a wheelbarrow-load of lavender! Moths can't stand the scent. Fortunately, I like it a lot.

Is that what mothballs are made of?

There's a gas panic in the area around Atlanta. The news is driving most of it and people have rushed to get all the gas they can because we'll apparently be living in Mad Max times by Tuesday.

I hate the human race and long for the cleansing fires of an asteroid impact.

That's weird, AP. What triggered the gas panic? To my knowledge there's no shortage and no war in a oil-producing country. No holiday/travelling season either.

As for the months: in English, nocturnal butterflies are often referred to as moths. The actual moth family is indeed a sort of butterfly, just with unusual eating habits.
Mothballs are made of naphthalene which is suspected to cause cancer. Lavender is a knee-high slender shrub with strongly scented flowers which is mainly grown in Italy and France. Moths dislike the scent and avoid food that smells of lavender. On humans, lavender has a calming and relaxing effect which is frequently used medically.

My argh of the day: it rained and so I didn't go to work by bicycle but took a taxi. After 300 yds ist motor broke. Then I received a shipment of containers for my sapling tubes. I had ordered 30 but the box contained only 24. Due to a failure in the heating system my lab is currently at about 45°C ( >100°/F) and I forgot my lunch at home. Now I'm curios what else is going to go wrong.
It's definitely Murphy-day in Bavaria :D

A gas pipeline burst that feeds a lot of the southeastern US, leading some states (AL and GA at least) to declare a state of emergency. It's apparently a huge piece of infrastructure that I was completely unaware of. But yes, there have been shortages reported all over as a result, but thankfully prices haven't spiked much if at all.
