Things that frustrate us all

^It's actually the moth larvae that do the damage. Try a plastic box or bag for your doll. Give your doll a good brush and then vacuum the area thoroughly--to pick up any eggs-- and you might want to pick up some lavender or cedar strips. Can you wash the clothing on the doll?

the clothing is moth-infested, too. I already vacuumed the doll and put her into liquid nitrogen to kill all eggs (working in a lab comes handy there =) ) I use both cedar and lavender but the moths appear to be immune - or maybe they have a headcold ;)
The factory that produced the doll offers a repair service and next time I have a vacation I'll bring her there to have her arms and legs exchanged as the cloth is definitely beyond darning.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Käthe_Kruse My doll is the one in the red dress =) (well, not the one in the pic in person, but the same model)

Get a lizard, let it take up residence where your doll is stored.

A local business had a baby lizard sneak in -- one of those white, kind of opaque ones that eats insects. Well, several months later, it's gotten pretty damn fat. It's having no trouble finding things to eat apparently.

that's an intriguing idea =) The local zoo happens to have a surplus of baby chameleons :adore:. Alas, I can't have one as I live in a sort of penthouse on top of a shopping mall. The mall's aircondition system runs all day and makes a very unpleasant extremely deep humming noise. It almost drove my late hamster insane and reptiles are even more sensitive to vibrations. It'd be a torture for the poor critter.
I put up pheromone traps for the moths weeks ago and caught most of them. It only took me ages to find out where they hatched from. As far as I can see only 1 moth is left now. A pretty quick little chap but he won't escape me in the long run (or I simply leave the window open tonight and let the little bat in which patrols the roof garden every night =) )

I trained my 8-year-old nephew to complete a set of tasks by following written instructions, with images for visual aids. (Check what you did against the pictures, if they look the same, you did it right!)

I then submitted those instructions/images to a group of several hundred college students. With a three-month deadline. During which they could have asked me any question they wanted to clear up anything they didn't understand.

More than half of them failed to complete the tasks properly.

I don't know if I brought this up and I'm not going back pages to find out, but:

I know somebody in a top profession that took money and years of schooling to get where that person was. And when this person wanted to switch to another job and had to fill out a resume, I was utterly embarassed by how this person did it. Let's pretend this person's name is Dick Trickle. The name was signed on the resume:

dick.trickle

Yes, not capitalized and for some odd reason combined with a period.

If it's one thing I have learned over the many years, even "smart" people who had schooling, can be good at one or two things, but be idiots in others or at least inept. I'm baffled by how often people want to give another somebody with a degree in something, leadway on an issue because they assume that person is obviously more intelligent than them.

For me, if I was the HR director looking at that, I'd think I was dealing with a twelve year old. I wouldn't expect every applicant to be masters of the English language, but I at least expect them to be able to write their own name.

It's such a simple thing to capitalize proper nouns, yet I'm baffled and frustrated by how often I see people (and it's increased dramatically in recent years online, that I have seen) incapable of that. Just the other day I saw a local business website full of odd capitalization of words that are not proper nouns (among other errors spotted). Or other local businesses placing job ads where they can't even be bothered to capitalize their own businesses name.

On a related tangent, now that I'm on a ranting roll, how about people that go to Craigslist and post their resume or that they want work, in the jobs section? There are TWO seperate forums to post your resume or ask for work, and yet these bone heads post in the forum designed to offer employment. If I were an employer looking to hire and I saw that, that's one person I would immediately skip -- they aren't even bright enough to use Craigslist, and that's not a tough one!

I think both the student and the applicant & Craig's List problems are related. Many people nowadays don't read instructions properly and (or maybe because they) have an extremely short attention span. I blame internet and cellphone addiction.
On the other hand, Shaw already complained about a massive decline in English grammar and orthography. If I recall correctly, in "Pygmalion" Professor Higgins says something to the effect that proper English is only spoken abroad. He might actually have had a point since when I made my very first post here in 2001, Bedpan Elemental threatened to ban me, claiming that I indubitably was a clone of Che Guevara. Her assumption was based on the fact that both Che and myself used flawless grammar (at that time I just had done my CPE - you'll find that in the last 15 years my English deteriorated somewhat terribly. I hang out too much with native speakers  ).

There even are places where English completely disappears. In America they haven't used it for years! ;)

I totally know how you feel! After almost 4 decades of MS I've finally switched to Linux with my secondary computer and my laptop. The main one still runs MS but only till the current version's support expires. MS simply gets more terrible (and more spyware-ish) with every version. Not to mention more buggy...

Today's argh: slept not all that bad and dozed almost all the day and yet I'm still tired. And my MD can't find a reason. It's utterly frustrating to have no energy.

The number of terrorist attacks and shooting rampages in the world. Most recently a shooting in Munich and an attacker with an axe in Wuerzburg. People are dead or seriously injured. The world has become insane.....

I had/have similar problems but they did eventually find some of the causes: inactive thyroid and anemia being the biggest culprits. Have they tested you for either of these?

Civilisation has always been insane in one form or another.

Ah. Nice. Yea it does. I'm thinking of getting a new drive for it (if it's the issue) since it's been a pretty good laptop. But afterwards I'm planning on saving up for a new computer and thinking of moving over to Apple.

I'm sick and tired of MS's bs.

Dang that's frustrating.

Yes, both but apparently I "function within normal parameters". Well as far as one can be normal at all, after almost 1/4 century of working for the state... :D We're checking on vitamin or mineral deprivation now.

Kilana2, I totally agree. Bavaria used to be safe from idiots and criminals (if you don't count those sitting in our government) but right now everything seems to go crazy. I partially blame the media. Trolls live on publicity. The best thing we can do is go on as usual and keep our eyes and minds open.

Hmm, funny day. Not a single argh-moment for me (yet...)

Asshole costumers.

A couple nights ago I was in a local Wal-Mart. It was late and instead of the usual one or two lines open, there were four or five, but they were all full.

I have ice cream in my hands and I pick the line that looks like it'll move faster. Cut to about fifteen minutes later and the line hasn't moved. Finally, for some unknown bizare reason, the line next to us clears up and nobody gets in it, so I got get in it. That's when I hear the bitching.

The guy I had been behind, a twiggy white with a hoodie on and a backpack with him, starts cutting off the people behind me that are joining me, throws in a quick "sorry" and how he's been waiting litterally 25 minutes because some guy had the nerve to use a "fucking check" that people don't use anymore, according to his weird-tarded universe. He begins ripping that guy and the cashier and continues bitching even as I leave (I had only two items, and paid cash -- something I would think in his weird-tarded universe people also don't use anymore).

What a dickhole. The cashier did the best she could, there was obviously a problem that kept the check from getting cashed right away, but there certainly is no need to rip into her. And whether it's twenty-five minutes or fifteen minutes, the line next to use was moving faster. If he took his fucking hgoodie blinders off he would have seen that and moved to the other line rather than go on an ugly rant about some guy just trying to pay for his food or some cashier just trying to do her job almost at the graveyard shift. He chose to stay in that line and only moved when he saw me move.

On a note that he obviously couldn't have known, I've actually dealt with this cashier multiple times; she' a ncie lady who works during the day and she's fast and competant. Just incase anybody here thinks she might have been the problem.

When a customer is being unreasonable and causing a big scene in a store, restaurant, etc., the management should escort him OUT! It's really irritating.

In my own line of work, I have sometimes had to tell somebody, "Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to leave." It's really quite simple.
