Things that frustrate us all

I hate when I say something to someone in person and they act like I've said nothing at all and start talking about something completely unrelated. Yes, they heard me.

Happens all the time with my mom and my housemate.

With my mom, she generally starts talking before I've even finished saying what I'm saying with plenty of time to realize that I'm saying something. Once, I had something timely to say, she started talking for five minutes and by the time she was finished what I had to say was no longer relative at all and would have fallen completely flat. Unimportant in the grand scheme, but it still felt like I didn't matter at all and it hurt. Still does.

I hate that as well. Noticed it in Fortnite, when I was killed before I even had a chance to start fully knowing the controls.

I totally understand. People forget that not everyone is 360 no scope major league gamer. Gaming should be fun.

I met a toxic player earlier. Luckily she was stupid enough to upload the bullying on Youtube and I reported it. It gave me a chance to review what really happened and it kinda came out of nowhere. I mean... I noticed a shift in behaviour that I missed at the time. (Because I wasn't watching the live stream while participating in it.)

The thing is... The live streamer verbally stated that they promote positive vibes on their stream. I interacted via the chat for a while before adding them on PS4. Everything seemed friendly.

By the time I joined their GTA Online session things went the same predictable way. I was asked why I had a female character (when I'm a guy and use both male and female characters), and why the character was dressed like she was at a nightclub. The usual jealous line of questioning because I like customisation in games and the outfits probably stood out. The session turned in PvP against the streamer and her friends thereafter. I mean, the other friends attacked her for a while.

Then things went back to normal. I joined her MC club and that's when everything went south over a five minute period. Although I managed to dodge a proverbial bullet.

Being helpful, I did a business battle. I blew up an enemy buzzard and took one half of the cargo. While en route to the nightclub garage, one of the streamer's friends killed me, stole the cargo and delivered it. I asked who did it. My reaction went ignored. Meanwhile, the live streamer was marking me for death. My question got answered a couple of minutes later. The streamer even credited me for helping out. (After plotting to kill me.) Although she quickly ignored the issue. By then, I'd had enough and quit the session.

I honestly don't know why they turned. There's the old 'anonymity of the internet' and 'it's them and not you' excuse. I even get that GTA Online is a crime simulator and there's a lot of griefing lol. But... It's kinda sad that people's nastiness can turn on a dime like that. Unprovoked. Over a video game. When you're being social. *Shrugs. *

Exactly. And yet they go after them as if they were. Some people can be jerks online. Had to block some due to it.

Wow. That's insane.

At least I managed to get squeezed in at the dentist tomorrow afternoon, thirty minutes after a field trip ends. I realized this is the first time in nearly two decades that people have seen the gap between my two front teeth. At least the discolored enamel isn't showing.

I'm glad you were able to get in. I have a few teeth that had shoddy work done on them and they're finally beginning to show it. Well, the ones that are still in. I had a couple of fillings fall out about two weeks after being done and that dentist wouldn't do anything about it other than recharging my insurance at the time for a brand-new procedure. :censored::censored::censored:

Oh geez, that's really bad! I'm sorry you've had to deal with that!

I now realise that it’s actually an active dislike.
People who dislike you have to endure the consequences of their own folly (i.e. living without getting to know you). I think you are very likeable, indeed, and enjoyable company.
What’s a diplomatic way to tell a colleague their code they want me to add features to is hacky and unreadable and without a single comment or unit test?
There is none. Be blunt and if necessary show them how easily the code can get hacked. Particularly with IT-laypersons it is often helpful to show them a similar site or programme that did get hacked, so that they can see the risks and consequences with their own eyes.
I think I've upset a good friend by poking my nose where it doesn't belong. :(:weep:
That happens to all of us, occasionally. If one cares, one tends to put one's foot into it (or nose, in your case). A good friend will understand that.

That's rather rude and hurtful. Couldn't you talk with your mom about that problem? Some people who keep interrupting aren't even aware that they do it and how much they annoy or hurt others.
When your tooth cap breaks off and you have a busy week.
Eeks! My heartfelt commiserations (been there and found it totally horrible). Nice of your dentist to squeeze you in =)

On the first day in my current apartment I broke a tooth so unfortunately that it couldn't be rescued. Back then (7 years ago) it wasn't technically posible to replace it with an implant. Nowadays, my new dentist tells me, it's possible. But I'm torn: on the one hand, it'd be nice to have the gap closed. On the other hand, I'm scared of dentists and an implant is a major treatment (I already have 3 and that was rather nerve-wracking and it was before teh events that lead to my PTSD). I'm not sure I have the nerve anymore to go through it again. Perhaps I should ask the dentist if it's possible to get some sedative.

Yeah. I don't understand why people need to be jerks to feel better. I've had to block people too. It's a game and not a job. Don't know why people treat it that way. There's a chance to get to know new people but they squander it. Yet, they still want to play with you. It's weird.

The strange part is that the streamer was friendly. At least, she seemed that way for over an hour. She complimented my youtube channel and gamertag. I never pushed those issues but they picked up on it.

For some reason people pick up on certain things when I'm playing online. Whether it's a custom character or emblem. Or, they don't like me playing well even when I'm not the best overall. Sometimes I have crazy moments but it's purely down to having fun.

It just makes me a bit paranoid now. Are they really friendly or fake? It seems like the same negative, cookie cutter reaction. Genuinely, I like to know new people but x, y and z seems to rub them the wrong way. Which is sad. There's nothing wrong with being competitive but not when there's no need to be.

@rhubarbodendron, trust me, I've tried. It doesn't seem to matter.

I'm sorry about your tooth! I understand your anxiety about going through another surgery. I would love to get some of mine replaced but I'm just not sure if I can do that.

The issue with this code isn’t hacking so much as fragility and maintenance. One of those things that started as a simple use case but new features gradually got tied on with string.

Have I mentioned how much I HATE being interrupted?

If I ever get on one of those “Newlywed Game” type shows, I know what my “one thing your spouse does that drives you up the wall” is.

LET ME FINISH A FUCKING PARAGRAPH, WOMAN!!!

Except for Mario Kart, I find online multiplayer unplayable except in a closed group of friends.

Besides the toxic behavior, the only way to win is to be the kind if gamer who plays all the time and reads all the best strategies online. And that’s no fun anyway. If I ever joined a gaming tournament I’d look up optimal strategies. Otherwise it’s more fun to figure out a unique play style of your own.

Bear in mind when I’m talking about “hacky code” I don’t mean “Code that can be hacked”, I mean “Code that uses a lot of quick workarounds rather than being robust, well ordered and well styled”.

Yes, in that case, a hacky code would also be easier to be hacked.
