According to a colleague who is Kazakh it's a beautiful country and very rich in culture and history.
You could join my sister: she is currently exploring all countruies that end in -stan. Last year she was in Uzbekistan and I believe did also trips to Tajikistan and Kyrgyztan, and this year she was in Armenia and Azerbaijan.
She reports that people are incredibly hospitable and friendly there. Only there's a prob with money: you may bring only very little money with you and most banks have a limit how much you may withdraw from your account per week. It's meant to protect you from scams but backfires somewhat if you want to buy a lot of souvenirs. In the cities credit cards are often accepted, but everywhere else you're expected to pay cash.
Sounds like a novel but it actually happened to a former neighbour of mine: she was engaged to a nice young man during WW2 and he was reported missing and presumed to be dead. So she married someone else. However, the fiance was only a POW and returned in the 50s. He found out his girl was married and thought it wiser not to contact her. In the late 90s he read in the newspaper that her husband had died and decided to visit her. She nearly got a heart attack LOL. Half a year later he moved in with her and at the tender age of 80 they finally married

I could do with that, too! Only, if I'd take 4 weeks off my boss would freak out LOL. It's nice to be needed but it's damned exhausting, too.Trying to reboot my systems.

I'm not sure how users can say they're being purposely discriminated against because of their race anyway, unless they're constantly announcing it so much someone tells them to shut up about it. There's a member that's been on my friends' list for a year, and I only recently learned their race. Most people here, I don't know race, age, or gender unless it's revealed. It doesn't make any difference to me anyway.

Some 'frustrations' off the top of my head:
1. The boldness that the anonymous internet brings. Either by offensive comments or actions that can be racist, sexist, or just plain mean. (I've personally seen and experienced this in Yahoo! comments, Youtube, Trektoday with moderators and users, IMDB).
Can relate. Some people are just mean. And they figure being anonymous gives them free reign to say what ever they want to who ever, even if it means offending others. I'm not thin skinned in any way, but something's gotta give there.
I had a Turkish roommate/landlord during a quarter at UC Santa Cruz in Northern California. She had a liking for English dramas, and liked to play the television very loud....which didn't exactly jive when I had to get up for work...or class.

Yeah, I've heard KZ is the most...'accessible'? (If that's the word I'm looking for).
There is a lot of that going around offline as well. People with privilege are constantly frustrated by those who complain about racism, saying that those who complain are 'too sensitive' or they're 'playing the race card.' So, whatever complaint is put forth is quickly brushed under the rug, so to speak.
In that case, there should be fairness so no one feels slighted by their skin color. (Or even their gender, sexual orientation, etc.)
On top of that, common courtesy never hurts. Again, there is the sense that no one should question any treatment. (And, of course, being online and anonymous...courtesy and fairness sometimes goes out the window).

Anywho, on the notion of various people giving up on the notion of love: Well, you can't give up as Zulu Romeo brought out. Society tends to view women as primarily the ones looking for true love, when there are many men looking for 'Miss Right.'
One of my goals was to write a 'man-centric' romance about a man looking for true love and the bs he goes through looking for said romance.
The time spent to find that special individual should be to get to know yourself, knowing exactly who you want. I've likened finding that S.O. to finding a good job, or even trying to get a story published; you try and look for the right fit.

I am with you there, but I've seen when you accused mods of racism and there's just nothing there. I didn't even know you were black until you mentioned it in the MA thread. I would be surprised if most of the mods were aware of it, either.

I don't agree that people here are told not to question any treatment. The mods here are some of the most receptive you will find anywhere on the Internet. We may not be perfect but none of us are out to "get" anyone because of their skin color.
Well, I've been on a many forums and I've dealt with more receptive moderators (e.g. BlackTokyo, a site I frequented about blacks in Japan, and the site moderator was very receptive to criticism). Rather than cursing angrily such as 'Are you fucking kidding me?' when asked about treatment, and being told my tenure on the boards won't last long (followed by a quick closing of the thread where my question was posed) the moderator on BlackTokyo and I were able to come to a mutual understanding. (And, I hope to meet him personally when I do finally get a chance to go to Japan).
And, even though my 'frustration' does cover 'some' moderation on Trektoday, it also covers some previous boards I've been to in the past that were, or are, questionablely moderated. (Facebook is one of those sites that is questionably moderated, and not just from a racial standpoint. For example, you have people posting pictures of their own children and are given grief, from my understanding).
However, in regards to Trektoday, I guess this is just a sense of agreeing to disagree.

Well, I don't know about 'people,' but different posters are treated differently on Trektoday be it because they are a writer for Trek books, someone who worked on Trek, etc. (In my case, it was due to my racial background, especially since I had to get a random paragraph from one moderator - older white guy from a predominantly white suburb in Southern California - on how much racism he was awash in to justify his giving me an infraction...)

I know you aren't the only one talking about it, but you did bring it up first, and this is essentially just rehashing the content of your closed MA thread in Miscellaneous, which is not appropriate. If you have further issues you should take it up with the author and the moderator in question again via PM or with T'Bonz. I know this is a thread about expressing frustrations, but there is a specific course of action for dealing with board policy or personal issues, and this isn't it.
