Things that are suddenly funny

Deranged Nasat

Vice Admiral
Admiral
This is a strange idea for a thread, but I wondered who else has moments like this, moments where you re-examine mundane occurrences on a whim and suddenly find that they're amusing to you. The other day, I was waiting for a bus, and watching the traffic go past, when it suddenly struck me as funny. For the first time, I really looked at what I was seeing and it just seemed slightly ludicrous, though in a good way. All those people, seated and occasionally hunched over, whizzing along at unnatural speeds in their contraptions, having climbed into boxes of metal so they could be blasted along to where they want to go. For the next few minutes the sight of people seated in their cars as they passed struck me as pretty amusing. Sitting there, gripping a wheel, shooting along. Obviously, that response couldn't last, because - I suppose - it's so mundane an occurance that it can't retain much humour value for long. But it did make me wonder if anyone else has moments like this, moments where your perspective shifts slightly and something you see everyday suddenly seems funny.

I call it "becoming meta", and yeah, I've done that before, though I can't recall any particular moments right now. I'll think on it, though!

I don't think I'll look at a bus the same way again, after reading this ;)

I'm trying to spot and notice things, thinking "out of the box" and then making them eternal by taking photos, but I am not sure how often I see them as funny, or weird, or unusual (although they really are very much usual), etc.

Aww, you just made me want take my camera, chase buses and take photos of people in big boxes. Their faces, what they're doing, are they tired, sleeping, annoyed, busy with the smartphones...

I didn't find it funny, necessarily, but I had a very similar moment a few years ago regarding cars on the street. I was staying in a hotel, and my room overlooked a busy 8-lane highway (4 lanes each way). It was rush hour, and I was looking outside, and in the span of just a few minutes, I bet I saw over 1000 cars. It was the first time in my entire life that I had any concept of just how BIG the world is. All those cars filled with all those people, each of them living their own separate lives. Who were they, and where were they going? Did they have families? What had their lives been like until this point?

It kind of overwhelmed my brain.
