Things I like about Discovery...

OK. So I have had.. and am still having a hard time with liking Discovery. I love StarTrek... but I'm definitely not connecting with this show. So. I've decided to list a few things I DO like about the show. Feel free to list your favorite things too. Maybe it'll help me out of this Anti-Discovery feeling I have. :)

Andorians. One of the four founding races of the Federation. The last episode showed pretty close to a dozen Andorian StarFleet Officers in the background. Loved it! (On a side note.. not sure I like the nipple eyebrows... Much preferred the Shran Andorian look from Enterprise)

Tactical Maps. Loved this detail in the background on the screens.

Tellarites. Loved the redesign. And seeing several in StarFleet uniforms was great too. StarFleet for far too long has been a Homo Sapiens only club.

Space Dock under construction. Nice touch!

Agreed. Would LOVE to see a Lorca return. As in Prime Universe Lorca and if he does.. I hope he still has the same kind of edge the MU Lorca had.
I have similar feelings about DSC. I want to like it but I’m struggling to enjoy it as much as other iterations.

I did like Saru and Stamets, though. I also enjoyed the Mudd time loop episode and the one with the spore planet (Pahvo?).

The new main cast. Burnham, Saru, Stamets, Tilly, even their version of Sarek a little, and Detmer, black chick and asian dude from the bridge crew, even though we know nothing about them. I love 'em. The story of season 1 was shit, the plotting made no sense, the direction and creative choices were baffling most of the time.

But dayum - we have a new crew!
Great characters. Great actors. A worthy addition to the Star Trek family. And the shining foundation on which an actually good series can be build around in the future. Also, the one thing that makes me come back for season 2, even though I'm dissappointed in pretty much everything else that was delivered.

I could do with less Sarek, but otherwise I'm with you. Wonder if we've already gotten more Sarek in the first season of Discovery than we had in the 50 years prior.

- The Burham/Tilly and to a slightly lesser extent Stamets friendship.
- The large variety of new Starfleet ship designs, much better than the Klingon ships, which are a mess.
- The cool opening credits.
- Jason Isaac's acting.
- Michelle Yeoh excellent turns as captain and emperor.
- The action sequences during the final Mirror Universe episode, which were very well choreographed.
- The Mudd timeloop episode, which was my favorite of the series so far.
- The Stamets/Culbert relationship, which came too late for kudos but was still nice, and felt genuine.
- Tilly's nervous ticks coupled with boundless enthusiasm and optimism, and her comic relief.
- Stamets' sarcastic wit and his comic relief.
- Burnham's moral compass and dedication to Federation principles.
- Saru's growth as he overcomes his fear to become a leader.
- The reveal about Sarek's academic dealmaking regarding his adoptive daughter and biological son, and how it gives a new perspective on his later relationship with Spock.
- Andorians, Tellarites, Orions, Trill...
- Admiral Cornwell, who, except for a little attempted Klingon genocide hiccup at the end that she got over, belongs to the the small but prestigious "Sane Admiral's Club."

I like but don't love Disco. For season 1, that ranks it behind TOS (best first season) but clearly ahead of TNG & DS9 (worst first seasons) in my book.

I think there was a lot to like:

A) Acting. Some real top shelf acting from more than 1-2 spots. 1) Isaacs as Lorca.
2) Yeoh as Georgiou. 3) Wiseman's Tilly. 4) Rapp's Stamets. 5) Jones' Saru. And
6) Chieffo's L'Rell were all top shelf.

Burnham, Mudd, Tyler, Sarek, & Cornwell were pretty strong as well. Perhaps the most depth of quality Trek acting since late DS9 or Prime TNG (Stewart, Spiner, Goldberg, De Lance, Burton).

B) Babes done right. For the first time ever there was not a hot chick in skimpy/different outfit (Troi, Kira, Kes/Seven, T'Pol).

Also liked more aliens in Starfleet towards the end.
