Things I have always wanted to know.

Well not wanted as such but maybe answers to things left hanging. What was the fate of Moriarty? What did the Ent. D crew do with that holo module he was in at the end of his second story on TNG? Did they just leave it on a shelf and it was lost in the saucer crash in Generations or did they hand it over to Starfleet for more study?

Was it mentioned in the novels?

Also how did the EMH manage to knock someone up? Didn't that happen in that episode where the EMH was on another world on his way to the Federation?

Pretty sure Moriarty is in the novel Immortal Coil, which is all about AI in the Trekverse.

"Blink of an Eye" had him mention having a son, but I assumed it was adoption.

That's the episode I was thinking about. I haven't dived into maybe one or two Trek novels at the most. I have 3 TNG stories and that's about it.

How do people here find the Federation treatment of AI's?

I always thought the EMH shacked up with a single mom and helped raise her kid. I do wonder if he picked a name there, and why he didn't adopt it afterward. Though I wonder why he didn't pick a lot of names: Shmullus, Kenneth, Van Gogh, or the original choice, Zimmerman. I thought I had a weird sense of humor, but Voyager's inside jokes escape me.

A person of his status should bloody well have his own ship.
Why? As Picard would say they have eliminated hunger, thirst, want, the need for material possessions. If he is serving in some capacity that doesn't require a ship why should he be allocated one? Because he's famous? Come on...

Even in the Federation, there are probably some limits on resources. I mean, you can probably get an unlimited supply of Earl Gray or Feline Supplement #25 without taxing your replicator, but a warp-capable starship is likely another matter. It's conceivable that you would need to demonstrate the need for such a thing.

Well, Picard is the Commandant of the Academy, and he has served Starfleet for most of the 24th century. Never mind his public status and celebrity.

He should be able to have his own ship on standby... even if it's mostly used for training in the Sol system.

I see no reason why he wouldn't have a runabout in the course of his duties. But, even Kirk had to request taking command. So, I still see no issues.
