They should get Joel Goldsmith to do the score.

Joel Goldsmith has done some fine work on SG-1 and Atlantis . . . although definitely not his father. I'd say there are - at best - two or three episodes per season on those shows that really feature moments of stand-out, excellent music. Most of it is serviceable, but nothing special.

Giachhino will be terrific. I love his score for the Incredibles- one of the few Disney movies I wanted to buy the soundtrack for.

Joel Goldsmith isn't bad, but he isn't his father.

Horner's still around, and he did good work on Wrath of Khan and Voyage Home.

Alternately Abrams could try and get John Williams who has so many iconic scores under his belt - I could see him doing justice to Alex Courage's original theme while adding brand-new material.

BTW don't forget that Abrams is also a composer - he composed the theme for Alias - but I don't imagine he'll try and take THAT on!

Cheers

Alex

^Horner had nothing to do with TVH. He scored TWoK and TSFS. I really liked his music, but I'm not sure Trek could afford him these days. And as has been noted elsewhere, a lot of his scores in the end seem a bit interchangeable.

Still, I wouldn't complain if they got him. I just don't find it likely.

Joel would be okay, I guess. Personally, and this may sound odd, but I'd like the score to go to Thomas Newman.

I'd rather see a completely new name in composing this movie. This film is supposed to be a complete restart, in production and cast (excluding Nimoy). The composer should reflect that. As long as the Alexander Courage theme is in the movie, though I'd be fine with whomever Abrams chooses.
