"They Live" remake

"They Live" is an unbelievably bad movie - worst non-musical made with a decent budget in the 1980s. Evidently it was popular enough to warrant interest in remaking it.

It's one of those "so bad it's good" movies, Dennis.

You cannot find someone who can deliver the chew bubblegum and kick ass line with the same...quality that Roddy Piper did.

No. Just, no.

What, you can't enjoy a bad movie?

I like the pause, there. You're right, of course. I'm not sure we have an equivalent to "Rowdy" Roddy Piper making movies today.

awesome movie

i dont know why people get pissy about remakes.

unless they were taking the original off the shelves and replacing them
Well, it seems like everything is getting remade, would be nice to see some originality. Though The Day The Earth Stood Still is an exception, because this one is about the environment, saving the environment and that is a good thing, plus it looks like there might be some unexpected things in it

how bout the rock?:)

Whatever. It was John Carpenter's last good movie. Yeah, it was low budget and the aliens are silly, but it did in one film what the X-Files spent 9 seasons on. And Roddy Piper can more kick ass and chew more bubble gum than David Duchovny ever could.

The movie is known for a fight scene that lasts 5 1/2 minutes and for the line, "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum."

No writer is on board.

Sounds like they're all set... ;)

Seriously, this was a fun movie. :techman:

The quality wasn't that bad, but the premise was genius. People are so fooled by mindless consumerism that they can't see they are being conditioned and manipulated. This masterpiece should be left alone. The "geniuses" in Hollywood have about as much creativity as a rock right now. Pathetic!!

I LOVE this movie! John Carpenter had 4 or 5 films I really really enjoyed for no other reason than Carpenter and his people always seemed SO INVESTED in the project no matter how good or how bad.

The Kurt Russell films: Escape from NY/LA, The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China...oh! And my favorite cheesy Carpenter flick: Prince of Darkness!

Much of his other crap was, well, crap. But They Live! was a sort of special sweet-smelling crap. NOBODY TELL COGSLEY! They Live! is one of HIS favorites as well! :p

They Live is one of my favorite B-movies. The premise has such potential that I'm happy to see a remake in in motion. I just hope they manage to keep the subversive edge of the original.

Well, believe it or not, the original was meant to be a political statement about NeoConservatism and the Reagan administration. The suggestion being that the aliens controlled people through the media and had created a sort of permanent underclass out of the hapless humans who weren't aiding and abetting the "invasion".

The remake doesn't HAVE TO have a message, but it would be a shame to lose that bit of commentary to a new filmmaker unaware of the original's intent.

I hope they keep the characters the same. The new hero should be a 30+ something drifter....please don't a 21 year-old guy with a girl tagging along. Crap...I just thought it could be Shia LaBeouf.
