I've been participating in the "52-Week Illustration Challenge" on Facebook, in which a different theme is posted for each week. It started in 2014 and is continuing this year. I've found several excuses for adding a Trek element to a theme or two.

Week 16, 2014, Book cover by Ian McLean, on Flickr
"Have phaser, will travel". Watercolours on white acrylic gesso primed canvas sheet, with double-ended, waterproof, black Sharpie outlining, plus titles in Pages. Stars are opaque white Signo pigment ink.

Week 27, 2014, Snow by Ian McLean, on Flickr
Live from a vacation in Michigan, USA! I've only ever been here in the snow before, but it's summer, of course! The snowman on the right with the "Star Trek" phaser is based on the one made by my penpal and I during out first meeting in January 1984. The little one is based on the one outside our restaurant window in December 2012. The squirrel victim is depicted because - squirrel! Drawn with oil pastels on two backgrounds.

Week 12, 2015, Costume by Ian McLean, on Flickr
"Science fiction media convention costume parade". All of these entrants are me - Tellarites, Andorians and Robin the Boy Wonder - based on photos from several decades of costume parades, drawn and painted in a Perth hotel room. Sketch inked in black Sharpie on watercolour paper, coloured in watercolours and metallic Signo.

Week 13, 2015, Transport II by Ian McLean, on Flickr
"Transporter Room to Landing Party, one to beam down." A four-part piece of an Andorian from "Star Trek" beaming down to a planet. Drawn in black Sharpie onto watercolour paper, coloured with watercolours, two collaged paper templates, and silver glitter.

Week 17, 2015, Fluffy by Ian McLean, on Flickr
"The Trouble With Tribbles". Sketched in black Sharpie, with metallic gold highlights, on watercolour paper. Based on the famous publicity still from "Star Trek". Coloured in watercolours.
