There's a fourth choice???

One of my students was reading from a form she was filling out. I don't know what it was for as I didn't go and look (I now wish I had out of curiosity).

Anyway the form asked for the applicant's sexual preference and list:

A) Heterosexual
B) Homosexual
C) Bisexual
D) Other

Other? :confused::wtf:

Now yes I can think of a few fetishes but none that I would imagine would be meant.

Asexual?

According to Wiki

Asexuality (also known as nonsexualityhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asexual#cite_note-0) in its broadest sense, describes lack of sexual attraction,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asexual#cite_note-Bogaert2006-1http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asexual#cite_note-New_Scientist-2or interest in or desire for sex.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asexual#cite_note-3 Sometimes, it is considered a lack of a sexual orientation.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asexual#cite_note-Bogaert2004-4 One commonly cited study placed the incidence rate of asexuality at 1%.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asexual#cite_note-cnn-5
Asexuality is distinct from abstention from sexual activity and from celibacy, which are behavioral and the latter is usually for a religious reason.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asexual#cite_note-6 A sexual orientation, unlike a behavior, is definitionally "enduring".http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asexual#cite_note-7 Some asexuals do have sex.

asexual = no attraction to either gender.

pansexual = gender doesn't factor any more than a person's hair colour, making gender a non factor. Contrast this with bisexual, which still strongly recognises gender, and the person's feelings towards each are distinct.

I often think of it like a compass:

............................................... Bisexual = North

Homosexual = West ....... Pansexual = Centre ....... Heterosexual = East

.............................................. Asexual = South

Most people can locate themselves somewhere within that circle.

There are also sexually active intersexed people who the terms "heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual" might not accurately describe.

On some forms I've filled out trying to get into government work, they've listed "Other" under gender.

Bloodwhiner, what kind of form was this? I'm curious as to what one would be applying for that would require someone to reveal their sexual orientation.

Some people are trisexual. If it's sexual, they'll try it.

In other words: Anything with a pulse!

I really don't know what the form was for.. I also wish I had gone over to see.

I thought about transexual but did not see that as a sexual orientation, it is more of a gender selection. I also discounted celibacy because it is a lifestyle choice, bot an orientation.

In the past I've filled out forms for medical or research purposes where the question is asked for classification purposes, but "other" was never a choice.

Weren't the Atlanteans reputed to have a third sex? Or was that the Lemurians?

I would think asexual would make more sense in this context. I'm not sure if that's what you're referring to with the celibacy comment? They seem like two different things, and that being asexual could be an orientation whereas celibacy would be a lifestyle choice.

Yeah, I know there's a bunch of cultures like that, but this was a legend sort of thing-- a real third sex, physically differing from both male and female. I can't remember the details.
