Spoilers There will never be Ferengi in DISCO

Or Star Trek could stop being bad when it comes to writing alien cultures, vulcans are logical, klingons are warriors, bajorans are religious, ferengi are greedy ... that's just bad writing, giving every species one major trait and then running it into the ground is ridiculous.

Inverting that and portraying Klingons ans peace loving hippies and ferengi as generous doesn't make it better when there's no nuance.

Which is nice that Ds9 showed that some Ferengis revolted against the situation of their society. Quark's Mom against the discrimination against women and Rom striving to acquire rights for low-income Ferengis... It's something we hardly ever see in other star trek series.

Fans don't want it.

Since when do they give what the fans want?
They give fans what they perceive they want. More episodic structure, hair on Klingons, among others. Fans long for the warm and familiar, so whenever Star Trek strays outside of its lane they will be there to slap them back.

I think the ratings are more influential than the fans.

I would say it is a weird mixed bag. I think ratings have the most pull, but the perception of what fans like about the higher rated content is often geared towards giving more of that. That's why Star Trek constantly labors in the shadow of its own past. It was the safest and most successful so it must be recreated.

I dont think the Ferengi will come back purely because who can ever beat Quark as a character?

But on a more serious note, i watched something recently about the origins of the Ferengi, and although i never picked up on it, one of the ongoing concerns the writers had about them was that they themselves noticed unintentional anti semitic tropes in the characterisation.

Now, i cant say ive ever noticed it, and i doubt most people do, but in todays environment where TV production companies spent 99% of their time apologising for failures real or imagined, they wont open themselves up to more of it if they can avoid it.

They had a Ferengi in Lower Decks.
So I don't think CBS is against using them.

After the changes Zek made, and Rom probably followed up on, the Ferengi as we know them (greedy, misogynistic, untrustworthy little trolls) no longer existed. They had probably had joined the Federation by 2450 or so.

It's also possible that Brunt or one of his descendants staged a revolt and returned to the old ways... Although the women likely kept their rights, it wouldn't be exactly the old ways only on the financial side of things.

Or maybe ferengi women took some tips from the Angel one ladies and made ferengi men subservient

Except on your TV, that means seeing people from the neck up all the time... That's a little tiresome if you ask me. If you want to show people naked, show them... otherwise tell another story!!!!
I agree. Especially since from the neck up is like a Zoom meeting. To quote Red vs. Blue: "They look ridiculous!"

Not really more dignified.;)

Warmer, though.

Well, naked males can be shown from the waist up. At least for now... swimsuits have been getting more and more modest over the last 50 years. Half the boys I see swimming these days are wearing shirts, and quite a few men as well. By 2070 or so, we'll probably be back to those Victorian era bathing suits that covered most of your body.

I don't think that's modesty always but an extreme worry about skin cancer too. I recall selling a lot of swim tees with UPF factor to protect the skin. So, yeah, I can see that trend going along but not for modesty.
