Spoilers There will never be Ferengi in DISCO

The Ferengi probably made a killing in the black market after the burn and the Chain probably kick them out of the sector where Discovery is taking place so they will be back.

I would LOVE socialist Ferengi.

"Rule of Equity #212..."

It would be great if the Ferengi rejected greed for material items but retained all of their other negative traits. In this society, there would be intense competition to see who is the most generous. Ferengi would lie, cheat and steal to be the most generous. As soon as a Ferengi came into possession of a material object, he/she would try to give it away as fast as possible. The richest Ferengi would be seen as a total loser. "What can I do? People keep giving me latinum!"

I think the third season of Star Trek Discovery proved that the Orions are better capitalist villains than the Ferengi are. The Orion led Emerald Chain in season 3 engaged in slavery, exploited Pre Warp civilizations, tried to kill millions when it suited their interests, and was willing to make a deal that favored them with the Federation and the Orions in season 3 of Discovery are far more menacing than the Ferengi were in any appearance they had as villains.

I hate to say this, but i believe the reason there are no Ferengi in new Star Trek has to do with antisemitism. The producers don't want to have to deal with antisemitism allegations. Not to mention some of the more prominent people currently working on Star Trek are jewish themselves, and even though they themselves probably don't find the Ferengi offensive (given all the ferengi easter eggs), they are keenly aware of the controversy and do not want to offend fellow Jews.

The real reason for the lack of 32nd-century Ferengi is their barbarism, cannibalism, and fierce martial prowess were left unchecked for too long because nobody believed the early TNG episodes. When the Ferengi Regime nearly wiped out all sentient life in the universe (!!!) the Federation had no choice but to liquidate Quark’s bar, ending the species’ spacefaring capabilities forever.

Di you seriously believe the Ferengi never evolved for the better over the last 800 years?

OP has it wrong, it's the Ferengi who were filling the space the Orions originally filled to begin with.

They're who we had for TNG instead of the Orions because the writers didn't want to use too much stuff from TOS. The present take on the Orions ties into plenty of pre-TNG canon and fanlore.
