What would've been better imo for an alternative ending that they could've put in the dvd section is at the end instead of Picard being released is seeing him give in and say
"There are 5 lights" only to have Gul Madred smile at him and say
"No... there are four lights."

Now that would've been awesome. Just to see him absolutely screw around with PIcard just coz he could.

On another note - Gul Madred is by far the best Cardassian!!!

I've always thought that the Cardassians have been underrated as a species and that Gul Dukat ruined them with his whole quest for the Par Wraiths.
but yea I think Gul Madred embodies everything of what a Cardassian should be!

However, the fact that you wanted Madred to be punished more severely means the ep had an impact on you. It's probably the feeling Picard had when he was liberated. He probably would have loved to tear Madred apart with his bare hands.

Yes it did have an impact on me, not so much for the physical torture aspect, but for the fact that the Cardassian took such delight in hurting his prisoner, and all the retribution he gets is to realize he didn't break his prisoner.

I'm sure the next day he wouldn't have given a shit. However, if after Picard's defiance, the Cardassian turns around to see Data and Worf staring at him and both saying "hi fucker! so, you like to torture our captain huh?" and then give the asshole some pure Sopranos treatment, oh boy would that been satisfying.

It doesn't help that I hate Cardassians and would shoot them all if the existed for real :
