Therapists on the bridge

Nooottttt.... quiiiiite. Still got some mileage on it yet. ;)
O ho ho! Therapist is the words the and rapist combined, just like they said on that old SNL Jeopardy skit. High-larious! Everybody laugh!

Yeah, it's played out. And I say that as someone who liked that joke when it was on SNL and gave Likes out to the first few people who used it in this thread.

I thought I was the first one.

If the therapist can read the minds and or emotions of people on another ship they encounter, then I can definitely see her being there.

^ I dunno, we have the ability to delude ourselves, repress ourselves, etc. Being able to read another's mind would be profoundly helpful but not the key to everything. Plus, everyone's different and diversity of psychology might make it difficult to understand how to help different people do different things.

That's for the helpful patients. People trained to actively repel empathic or even telepathic analysis (Dukat thwarted Sakonna's attempt to read him in DS9's "The Maquis, Part II," I think it was) complicates things.

The only time that joke was funny was in Arrested Development when Tobias combined Analyst/Therapist and put Analrapist on his sign.

Only if she can report something more constructive than "He's hiding something," "I sense great anger," or "Now we're seeing some truth!"

Geordi was also just as helpful at times, with his visor being able to tell when somebody was lying. There's more than one way to catch someone in a fib.

He also claimed to be able to see through the playing cards, then added "but don't worry, guys. I don't cheat"

Seriously... Geordi should be banned from all poker games after that.

Likewise, Data can memorize all the cards by a glance at the deck, and Deanna can sense when another is bluffing. Really is quite something Riker won as many games as he did. He likely really is cheating, like he "joked" about in AGT.

Maybe Riker was pulling a Devinoni Ral kind of move, and was secretly an empath/telepath the whole time. Plot twist!

I agree. He admitted that he watched the cards that hadn't been overturned. That's cheating! If you didn't pay to see the cards, you have no right to know what they were because that gives you insights about the bluffing method/pattern of your opponents.
