Not sure if this requires a spoiler tag, but doing it just in case...
Regarding episode 8, "Broken Pieces", a thought occured to me...
Could the reason the Borg's memory of longer ago being fragmented is because it has been dormant for thousands of centuries?
With the revelation of an ancient race creating AIs going a bad route, could this be the Borg in original form?
This would be another large reason to have the Borg feature so heavily in this series.
I have a second theory, though nothing to really support it except possibly the passage of time.
V'Ger... the homeworld of the machines that gave it sentience. Could THAT be what the ancient race was referring to? V'Ger was INCREDIBLY advanced, far more than anything other corporeal race Starfleet has encountered. Even the Borg. Given all those millennia of just advancing, could that be what the Zhat Vosh are referring to about an AI species that caused all that destruction?
