I wish there was an in-story explanation for the "Klingon" mess, but truthfully, I just think someone got a bee in their bonnet about doing their own, personal redesign and no one stepped in to put a foot down and say, "NO!" Which really, really should have happened. This show is doomed to never reach a large chunk of Trek fandom because of the unnecessary and unwise design changes. Personally, I could forgive almost everything else about the show and just enjoy it...If Only.

^Many of the articles online about the new Klingon design says they were made to Brian Fuller's brief. Right down to an insistence they be bald.
My headcanon until said otherwise is they're just Klingons of a different ethnicity than we've seen.

It's a bit odd that the look of the Klingons would be a point of contest in the newest Trek series... Just think how absurd such a claim would have sounded a year ago!
Klingons look different by definition. By TOS definition, even: no two Klingon outings were alike in makeup style within that show.
As for elongated skulls, that's just about the simplest type of body modification to do for aesthetical reasons. Many South American peoples did that a lot. Less destructive than tiny feet, too.

While I hate to disagree with sense, I remind people that we Trekkies were the original anal retentive obsessed fans. There used to be a time where we reacted to, "My God, the phaser settings are inconsistent! What does this mean!" We've actually come a long way to acknowledging, "It's a TV show. The writers didn't care."
The only thing that bugs me about the Klingons is the lack of hair, and that's only because Kahless definitively had hair*, so I just imagine that these guys all removed their hair rather than it being a Klingon thing.
Maybe many Klingons chose to remove their hair after the augment virus hit. An act of defiance, a spit in the face of the travesty that has befallen their species!
Any way, as we've seen Klingon fashion went (chronologically) from long hair to very short, to moderate length and then back to really long. (And so curly sometimes!) So it's not hard to imagine the desired look for a while was no hair at all.
*Not because the clone did, but because the tales of Kahless specifically said so.
Oh, and now I have to pretend there are two different D-7 classes.

Their eyes don't dry up in their sockets, though, so there's apparently some compensating mechanism in all eras and contexts. Was the legend of Kahless rewritten when Klingons acquired the ability to weep, or did the Klingons forget to rewrite it when their species lost the ability to weep?

Yeah, the hair is the only thing really bothering me, especially as well haven't seen a single one with hair suggesting they don't have it.
I don't remember the descriptions of Kahless, but I remember Worf stating that rapid hair growth was a symptom of "Klingon puberty" in insurrection. There was also discussion of his (as well as Riker and Geordi's) beard during a poker match with those and Dr. Crusher. (Can't remember the episode).
One of the tales says of how Kahless plunged a lock of his hair into molten rock, twisting and shaping it into a sword.
The joke is that's also true for humans.
I came in here expecting this to be about Klingon genitals, following Lorca's comments in the latest episode.

Right, we all know about Vulcan equipment with their feelers, double ridges and (in some circles) bifurcation, right? Now we know that humans "don't even have enough appendages" (or words to that effect) for a Klingon female.
Which means... double-cocked Klingons?
So to be crude, women on earth have been playing with klingons appendages for a while in the form of double ended toys?
