Spoilers Theory on the Nature of the Klingons We've Seen

Spoiler tagged so any resultant discussion can include episode content - not because I consider my theory a spoiler.

Could it be that the Klingons we've seen so far ARE some of the Augment Virus Klingons?

Their enthusiastic chant of "Remain Klingon" seems a little odd if they're already fully Klingon - I get the idea that they feel like their culture is threatened, but even so. And giving Klingons plastic surgery to compensate for the effects of the virus was mentioned in the episode of Enterprise. Maybe that's exactly what happened - and they went overboard in compensation. So these Klingons are the Klingon equivalent of the overdone Barbie doll plastic surgery women of 20th/21st century Earth? More Klingon than Klingon. Which would explain how the showrunners plan to have both TOS and TNG style Klingons running around in the show, too.

Maybe Ash Tyler is Voq - but turning him into Tyler involved less alteration and more DE-alteration?

Not 100%, no. I DO remember it being said, but I'll fully admit that my addlepated brain is not always the most reliable source.
I remember some vague comment about Klingons from different houses looking different. But all the "great house" representatives that we have seen so far have the new look. So maybe the other types of Klingons are currently marginalized and just don't have a representative on the High Council.

Someone suggested to me the other day that some of the Augment infected Klingons could have had the opposite reaction: Some took on human traits, others regressed or mutated.

Quite like that idea, but I have a feeling we'll hear nothing more on the subject as all the houses do seem to have their own subtle differences, physically.

Yeah, not all of them have such bulbous, elongated heads like L'Rell.

Or maybe the other Klingons still follow the Klingon High Command and these versions of the "Great Houses" are actually some sort of splinter cult thing for these augments. Perhaps they are building their own ships, too, or are using ships from one of their conquered species, or.... ? I'm not really trying to sell this very hard. Just spitballing. Trying to reconcile. And yes, I know: It's "just a show". I don't NEED to have it reconcile. But this is fun for me, so hush that. ;)

Didn't I read somewhere that it was a feature specific to female Klingons because they have larger brains... need to look this up.

It seems that it was mentioned in a Radio Times feature, but it now seems to be locked behind a questionnaire that I can't be bothered with.

I don't know where they got this info, and can't find it elsewhere, but I do believe it to be "female Klingon only" attribute.

I doubt we are ever going to see TNG or TOS-like Klingons in this show.

The new freakish appearance is simply the way that Klingons look in this iteration of Trek.

Somehow I thought that, out of all the Klingons we've seen in STD so far, the prison ship guards in the latest episode were the most reminiscent of Klingons from previous Trek.

I thought it was the one that tried to shush them, personally. Or maybe I just liked that an awful lot. :D

No, this is what Klingons look like. Just like the TOS version is what theylooked like in TOS and the bonehawk version was what they looked like in TMP and the ridge head was TNG. Its just a make up change. There is no in universe explanation needed.

Might it be possible that Klingons who have hair, simply have their elongated skulls covered up?

We see those skulls here, because these Klingons are all bald. But those with hair, might pass more unnoticed.

As for the ships, that's explainable, simply have T'Mushmouth's followers use their own ships which the rest of the Empire doesn't. (Did we ever actually see, for example, Kol's ship?)

L'Rell has an exceptionally elongated skull: http://www.treknews.net/2017/07/15/first-photo-mary-chieffo-klingon-lrell/

Even if she had hair like previous Klingons, there's no way you would miss that noggin.
