Spinning from a popular fan theory that Discovery uses the Guardian of Forever (rumoured to appear) to undo the Burn, resulting in a much worse timeline they then undo, I reckon 'Calypso' is simply from that darker timeline. It could explain why the Federation became baddies. We see Admiral Vance doing some dark as fuck stuff in the next two parter, so The Burn becomes an evil we learn to live with.
Or it’s just not going to be consistent because Calypso was produced way before DSC season 3, and they have no intention of trying to make it fit perfectly.
Hey mods -- can we get a subforum called "The Burn" where each TrekBBS member can start a thread about their own personal theories. This must be the third or fourth today.
Excactly. In that sense, Calypso could be seen as a 'draft' for season 3. Taking bits from it to create what we have now and is an otherwise a standalone episode.
We do...? Vance doesn't mess around, for sure, but he's a leader in a very difficult time and doesn't have the luxury of messing around. He's assertive but then I'd expect him to be so. Thus far, he seems to be one of, if not the most effective of all the Starfleet flag officers w've seen in any era. I really hope they manage to stay well clear of the bad admiral trope.
I meant they undo the Burn, but then when they return to the present timeline, the Federation is the villain of the story. So they then re-do the Burn.
I don't really care since having multiple threads could filter out the less interesting conversations. What I do not like is that this one has a NEWS tag. Shouldn't that be reserved for things that come from official sources?
