The YouTuber "Mr. Trek" making a LARGE Enterprise model...

Alas, "Mr. Trek", who was constructing a large, physical model of the TV era Enterprise has stopped his project.

He was trying to build something like a 1/25th scale version....crazy big. It was a fascinating project to watch as he did a small 1/100 (or so) test model. But, unfortunately, his project just wasn't economically viable.

The most interesting thing about this project was how long he managed to make progress and how he was always having to solve problems in physical space that most of us just guess at.

Dammit.... 😢

Sad, but not unexpected. Unless he had some crazy rich backers, I feared the influx of revenue would dwindle. The rent for that warehouse to house the 1/25th scale had to be stupidly expensive. Should have stuck to the 1/100th scale, something more manageable. That version could at least fit within a garage...maybe.

a shame, but not that surprising. been following this off and on and found even the smaller model impressive even if i questioned some of his layout decisions. but there was no way the giant one was gonna be viable unless he had a massive influx of viewers or a whale of a backer...

Of course, this was never going to get finished. He probably should have focused on a single saucer deck, the neck without the exterior hull and a deck of the secondary hull. The interesting part is seeing the layout of the ship and the details of the model, I wondered from the start what the point of all this work is if most of it ends up being buried deep inside the model. Even with removable hull plating and entire sections most of the work would have been inaccessible and invisible.

Compared to other ambitious projects that "have no chance so why start" this went on a surprisingly good way. I still think congratulations are in order.

I agree completely.

I found his modeling rather inspirational. The initial impression was rather stunning to me in its level of fidelity, which conveyed a vivid sense of "what it would look like".

Clearly the technique is perfectly viable to render and display portions of the interior, if not the entire thing.

Agreed. I did enjoy him sorting thru a physical manifestation… fasa vs franz J. Vs ? The super large size was always crazy….having said that, his enthusiasm was infectious and his skills were superb even if he was bat shite crazy. The world needs more people like him.

I followed him off and on for several years and I always wondered when he was going to get on with the full scale model. Every time I checked in it seems he was still working on the smaller version(s).

I wondered if he had a space to build the full scale version and if he had the funds to complete it. But I never for a minute believed he would finish the project. It just seemed so impractical and time consuming.

I find it weird that he thinks that by simply inventing his own ship and "universe" he will have the funds to finish that version. People buying merch of his own made-up ship? He seems highly skilled and methodical and I don't see why he seems to be destitute and in the situation he finds himself.
I really hope he finds fulfillment in his future endeavors.

I totally agree. I think if he just focused on the small model he would have been fine. Not sure how his own design will attract attention or - more Importantly for him- patreon members and views. 🤷‍♂️

Well, the question to me from the beginning is how it is going to work (which he may have addressed and I missed it). You would never be able to see any of the interior portions of the decks just the outside rooms. Disassembling the model of that size seems impractical and having all of the decks separated would not look like the Enterprise, so I was always confused by the concept but it was a cool idea and as I said before, I always appreciated his enthusiasm.

Yes, as mentioned above, the craziest idea was, for example, doing every single crew members cabin for a crew of 430!!
What the hell. How about examples of an officer's cabin (or two) and a crewperson's cabin (or two) and move on?
430 beds, toilets, vanities, chairs, showers.....?
One nacelle with cutaway and the other one just the exterior. Does the ship have more than one transporter room? If yes, just do one.
Show one example of all the rooms we saw on the show and a few mentioned, but never scene parts, and get the thing done. The shuttle bay with doors that open, removable "roof" bridge, etc.
I wonder if his subscribers ever offered that advice.

Agreed! The derogatory comments about his efforts are quite puzzling.

I'm surprised someone in the UK didn't see his skill and offer him some kind of job.

Also, did he ever mention that he intended to somehow put a tiny camera inside the ship that could move about showing off the entire interior build -- that would have been cool.
