The X-Men Cinematic Universe (General Discussion)

WhatCulture.com is reporting (via a low-level Fox executive) that, while completed, X-Men: Dark Phoenix is 'DOA' and will never see the inside of a movie theatre. Neither will New Mutants or Gambit. Deadpool 3, otoh, will 'probably' be spared.

The Gambit movie is being cancelled makes sense. No concrete progress has been made and Disney will likely have FOX by the time a FOX Gambit movie is made.

Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants not being released. This i'm skeptical about because that's alot of money to repay people who essentially wasted their time doing the movie

Also "The New Mutant's" has already released a trailer. Are they just going to drop it?

I'll believe it when it's official. Honestly, I can understand why Dark Phoenix could get this treatment - the Phoenix saga is something Marvel might want to do themselves, and the actors were describing it as part 1 of 2, anyway. Hard to sell tickets to part 1 when part 2 will never happen.

I don't see why you would stick the New Mutants in a drawer, though. By all accounts it would seem to be completely self-contained, it seems unlikely to be a high priority property for marvel and it's been completely shot and significantly reshot. I see no logical reason to not try to recoup some money from it.

Is there precedent for an entire film (let alone two) that's completely done (more or less depending on reshoots and special effects) as a result of a studio buy-out?

Also, even if the Fox sale to Marvel goes through (not just the shareholders vote, but also antitrust issues), Marvel won't be in control of Fox properties for several years. Seems to me it would be very strange to withhold any complete film while that large window is still open.

Disney doesn't yet own FOX's assets and won't for a significant while, and FOX isn't going to cancel things they've spent money on "just because".
What if you amend your sentence to "just because their future bosses asked them to as part of the purchase deal"?

Looking forward to the X-Men and Fantastic Four Reboots in MCU Phase 4. It's inevitable now.

Hope F4 is in the 1960s.

They are no longer competing.

The sale has not get been completed, so, yes, they are still competing.

Even with FOX shareholders approving the sale, federal approval still has to be sought, and it's entirely possible that the proposed deal gets held up in court for months, if not years.

Didn't the DOJ give their approval already?
