The X-Men Cinematic Universe (General Discussion)

With Dark Phoenix, I imagine some Fox executives sobered up after a six-month bender, watched some footage and had a collective "oh shit" moment of, "Wait, did we really give a $180 million tentpole to a first-time director who's written some of the worst shit in this entire series?"

Huh. So, in the seven-month period from July's Ant-Man and the Wasp to this new Dark Phoenix date, Venom (oh, and the animated Spider-Man) will be the only new Marvel movies. I wonder when was the last time we've gone that long without a major MCU/X-Men/live action Spider-Man release.

I am wondering though...what other major movies will be out around the origin date? This might be a wise move that allows the film to be number 1 for maybe even a couple weeks in a. Row

Aquaman in late December, Fantastic Beasts 2 in mid-November.

Silver and Black is still technically scheduled for release on February 8th, but seeing as how production should have already started and has been indefinitely delayed due to script issues who can say if that date will be kept either?

My daughter just reminded me of Wreck it Ralph 2 and Enter the Spiderverse also coming out then...so either fight the crowd or be the main attraction...I would say it makes sense...heck even Avengers is being moved up a week.

It's being discussed that Dark Phoenix is to be the last Fox X-Men release, with the FF and the mutants being totally recast and reintroduced in MCU Phase 4.

Nothing particularly ground-breaking there, but the insinuation is that reshoots on Dark Phoenix and New Mutants are an effort to keep that part of Fox going without pointlessly starting to develop any new projects.

New Mutants may not get a cinema release at all and either go straight to video/streaming, or, as it doesn't feature any current X-Men actors, possibly be retooled as an MCU release and just 'folded in' like Deadpool.

We'll probably not know anything concrete for months yet.

I've also 'heard' the Russo brothers are considering a Secret Wars option for bringing the mutants and FF into the MCU.

Regardless of whether that entails some sort of contest as per the original, or colliding realities (probably) as per the recent series, that's doubtless one of several options.

It may well have come straight from them, but it's still barely more likely than a rumour.

A version of the multiple reality mashup from the second Secret Wars would probably be the best way to go IMO.

Reliable sources are not reliable sources. #trustTheBlogsNotTheSuits

BTW the actual source is https://www.bleedingcool.com/2018/0...hase-4-dark-phoenix-the-last-fox-x-men-movie/

No, the actual source, as cited in the Bleeding Cool article, is a random blogger with a half-dozen op-eds on his site.

This kind of rumor comes up what feels like every three weeks or so, usually in the form of some fan-edited Marvel trailer that goes viral on Facebook splicing in footage of the X-Men or some shit. OMG WOLVERINE IN INFINITY WAR CONFIRMED!!!

I mean, again, the soonest this deal closes is early 2019, and even then it is not guaranteed (and, even then, the soonest Disney can take operational control of Fox is realistically 2020). But this reads like pure fanboyism:

X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be the last proper Fox Marvel movie, presumably also the last in that continuity. The crew behind the camera has been thanked for their work but their services will not be needed any longer, as everything is moving to Disney.
Come the fuck on; Dark Phoenix is getting its entire third act re-shot later this year. Disney staffers aren't going to be doing that.

There is a disturbingly large contingent of people who write for film sites who have zero idea of how the actual business works or knowingly misrepresent how it works to make clickbait stories sound plausible to Joe Q Public.

Well, maybe this means they'll go all out with DP and be willing to do a film with some guts. Maybe the reshoots are having her do permanent stuff like kill people or leave parts of Earth destroyed or something.

The re-shoots are because the third act was reportedly a mess. They're happening so late in the year because of cast availability.

Again, do not put any stock into this "rumor." Fox already has X-Force, Deadpool 3 and at least one more X-movie in development, plus New Mutants coming out sometime next year.

One person's opinion - an opinion that could land the person sharing it in jail - really doesn't mean anything whatsoever in regards to the film's quality.

The descriptions certainly aren't anything franchise redefining the way Kinberg and Turner have said.

It's like I've been saying for a while no,w the FoX-Men writers just don't know how to evolve the setting or storylines. They're getting a second chance at X3 and are making the same mistakes because they don't have it in them for truly epic, grand storytelling.

Or maybe it's because Dark Phoenix wasn't even that great a comic story either, and it's only adapted time and again because it's the only story Jean Grey has to her name.
