The X-Men Cinematic Universe (General Discussion)

Doesn't change that they didn't bother thinking up these movies, which go outside their conservative ways, until they knew that they were going to be out of there in about a year.
I didn't realize the first Deadpool movie time-traveled to theaters from 2019.

You don't know how long the idea of a Shadowcat movie has been circulating out there.

Also, it's going to be far less easy for Disney to just scrap the entire XMCU in a year, especially if reception to next year's slate of movies is positive.

And that's not even taking into account the fact that Legion and The Gifted have already entrenched themselves and earned steady audiences that would likely be pissed off if Disney cancelled them.

Since The Gifted and Legion are in their own separate universes, they could easily continue even if the movies are all rebooted into the MCU.

Legion is, but is The Gifted? I was under the impression that it was linked fairly explicitly to the films.

Gifted is explicitly set in AN X-men universe where the X-Men disappeared a while ago. It is apparently not a universe where other super powered people exist.

That would apparently rule out folding it into the MCU but not definitively tie it to the existing X-movies.

I, on the other hand, do realize that no one at Fox wanted to make Deadpool and it was more an independent film made by Ryan Reynolds.

I know they could've made these movies years ago, if they cared.

I doubt they will.

Eh, neither are that good. And if the MCU X-Men movies were good, the audience will forgive them.

Yet, Fox put $58 million on the line for its budget. I've never heard of an "independent" movie costing that much.

They kept slashing the budget, so Reynolds put up money of his own for the project. It was really just to get him to stop bugging him in the hopes it would bomb.

[Sarcasm]And the US government assassinated JFK.[/Sarcasm]

Conspiracy much?

The Gifted "feels like" it might be linked to the films ( mostly DOFP ) only because it's got versions of Trask Industries and Blink and a "Sentinel Services". But the details don't match up with the film timelines; for example, a newspaper article appears to conflict with First Class.

Why do people persist with the notion that Disney bought Fox to stop making Fox movies?

The only thing Reynolds financed was the test footage that leaked.

Call Ron Howard!

Though speaking of "another one bites the dust", one has to suspect that the Multiple Man movie is now much less likely than it was last week, due to allegations about James Franco.

They should just give up on Gambit already. I haven't really seen that much exitement for it, and at this point it feels like there's a pretty good chance all this effort could end up wasted.

What's the story where Kitty Pride tells her (black) dance teacher off after she told Kitty to ignore the anti-mutant bigot calling her a mutie-lover by saying "They're just words"?

"What if he called me a n****r-lover, would you be so damn tolerant then?"

It's not so much that they want to stop Fox making films, it's that the Fox X-Men films are incompatible with the MCU. There would have to be a huge retcon to pul that off and it will be easier (and probably better) to start again.

And no-one wants to see Fox have another run at the FF...

Without invoking MCU bias, how, exactly, would it be "better" for Disney to just scrap the longest-running continuous superhero film franchise in history?
