The X-Files : Season X (Spoilers!)

I still don't get why Scully isn't a believer after everything that happened.

But I do like how Mulder questioned everything and monsters and it turns out monsters really are real, and he knows that for certain... again.

Yea but it's the formula. Even though by the end of the series, she was pretty much where Mulder was at.

Me too.

Scully wasn't really much of a skeptic this episode though. She's the one who pushed Mulder (who *did* act as the skeptic for the first half) into investigating this monster, and during the motel scene, she didn't initially get a word in edgewise, when Mulder was putting words in her mouth. And she did come across the pertinent information about the human serial killer pretty much offscreen and left Mulder to deal with the were-lizard.

I'm guessing that Guy Mann's transformation is some type of ancient shapeshifting camouflage it takes to blend in with predators during periods of wakefulness. Guy was probably some lizard alien creature.

Really good, fun (but not great) episode. I'd rank it at the same level as War of the Coprophages – bottom-tier Darin Morgan, but mid-tier for the X-Files as a whole.

I liked the silly tone of the episode at first, but it started to wear on me as the story progressed. Especially during the extended flashback sequences.

This is what held it back from true greatness, IMO. Morgan's best episode have a layer of profound sadness underneath the jokes, and at their best the sadness becomes more pronounced as the layers of the story peel back. I kept waiting for the episode to move to that next emotional level but it never did. A bit too much harping on how trivial and silly human society is and not enough digging into the core of what makes civilization feel like such a prison. (For an example of the kind of writing I felt this episode would have benefited from, check out conversation between Mulder and Scully that Morgan contributed – in an ucredited rewrite – for the end of Quagmire.)

That said, what it did do it did very well. I loved, loved, loved the central conceit of monster-bitten-by-man. It's such a simple idea, and fits with the kind of genre-tweaking Morgan loves to do, eg. the alines-abducted-by-other-aliens in Jose Chung's.

And even though it makes no logical sense whatsoever, I laughed my ass off at Mulder having the X-Files theme as his ringtone.

Yeah. Not the best Darrin Morgan episode ever, but fun. I think the above analyses saying it was a little too silly say it well.

Masterpiece!

Clyde
Jose Chung
Were Monster
Humbug
WoC

All five episodes is masterpiece by one guy. Briliant. Next episode is pure horor. Glen Morgan.

Feb 1 Overnight Ratings: 2.6/8 (8.36 million viewers)

Lower than episode 2 but all shows last night were lower than usual. The X-Files once again won the night.

Another Home Run, this has to be the best show-revival yet. Sad that we're halfway through but I'm still hoping for more and the ratings are still encouraging that hope...

Great episode, it certainly stands along with From Outer Space and Final Repose as one of the better episodes of the serious. I especially loved the animal control guy getting arrested at the end due to Scully solving the case and capturing him on her own, "I had a speech prepared."

I think next week is a follow up to Home. I hope we get that "Wonderful" track again.

Glen Morgan has said that "Home Again" isn't a sequel to "Home" but he could've been misdirecting fans. The ad at the end of last night's episode seems to indicate that he was telling the truth.

The Season 11 comic had a follow-up to "Home" a few months ago entitled "Home Again" where they showed the modern day Peacock clan. I think this is where the confusion started as to what the TV "Home Again" would be about.

And if you're in the mood for that "Wonderful, Wonderful" song, they featured it in last week's Supernatural as the brothers are driving into a retirement community. Ever since "Home," that song has ultra creepy connotations for me.

I was getting excited for a follow up to Home too. I'm not a horror fan by any stretch, but Home was one of the more deliciously creepy episodes of any TV show I have ever seen. The use of the song really helped it be that way too, so I feel the same way you do.

Just a side note for everyone - that was Kumail Nanjiani, star of Silicon Valley and host of the The X-Files Files podcast. He's had some great interviews with Mark Snow, the Morgans, and a quick chat with David & Gillian. His episode reviews are pretty insightful and most of the C-list celebrities he has on the show are at least entertaining.

I'm a fan of it. It was great seeing him on the show.
