The X-Files : Season X (Spoilers!)

^if they really wanted to screw with people, make it B.D. Wong. Lead the audience to think it could tie into Mr. Robot.

They laid out too much of the "new" conspiracy in this one episode. It came off a little to much to be credulous. They should have started with one small part of it and tied more in as the season progressed.

I will also note that I liked that they acknowledged the year 2012. "The countdown started in 2012, but nobody noticed" or whatever Mulder said. It reminded me of "Angel" and how the Apocalypse they've all been waiting for has actually been happening under the surface the whole time.

Well, it was definitely cool seeing Mulder and Scully again (I completely skipped the last movie so it's been even longer since I've last seen them)... but unfortunately that was about the only thing I liked about the episode.

The story felt incredibly tired and outdated, the editing was weird and clunky in a lot of places, the actors looked (and sounded) completely bored with what they were given to do, and it basically felt like Carter was trying to make the show in the exact same style as before... forgetting the fact it's no longer the 90s and times have moved on.

And maybe it's because I'm no longer a teenager who's fascinated by alien conspiracy theories, but I just had a hard time taking any of the conspiracy stuff in this episode seriously. It somehow sounded even more loony and ridiculous than the original conspiracy did, and I basically found myself as fed up and impatient with it as Scully was for most of the episode.

Yea I wasn't too thrilled by it either. I stopped following the myth arc in 98', so to hear the new version of it was rather boring.

CC needs to update the formula some how and this didn't exactly do it.

I don't agree about the boredom but I do think that a lot of the writing was clunky.

I really didn't like that. It kind of invalidated the previous myth arc in part. But I can see why they handled it that way, gotta take care of things some how.

I think the conspiracy was supposed to sound a lot crazier to us this time around. Mulder has become isolated and obsessed, even moreso than he was before, and he's so desperate that he'll believe anything. I think we were all supposed to be on Scully's side during that whole conversation in the living room.

It'll probably end of being Tad O'Malley, but I wouldn't be mad if it turned out to be a resurrected Krycek. Did anybody notice if he had a plastic hand? :p
I had the same thought, but as far as I know we haven't heard anything about Nicholas Lea returning, and I don't know if they'd have been able to keep such a big return quiet. We already know about the Lone Gunmen and CSM returning, so I don't see why they would announce them, but not Krycek.

Yeah, that's how I read the scene.

That does make sense. You can see the similarities between O'Malley and Mulder and Scully was there with the season 1 attitude of debunking what Mulder was saying. We were told that O'Malley was a conspiracy nut at the beginning of the show, and Mulder finally met his match, so to speak.

It looked like a female hand to me, but I could be wrong.

Some online are speculating that it's Reyes and I hope like hell they're mistaken. That would be too disturbing a revelation, especially given that many of the fans are quite fond of the character.

My own speculation involves information that I gathered from IMDB, so consider yourselves warned.
Veena Sood is listed as playing a character named "Dr. Louise Colquitt."

"Jack Colquitt" was the main character in the stories that CSM used to write in his free time ("Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man"), so I'm guessing that CSM is using the Colquitt name as an alias and Dr. Louise Colquitt is actually the Bride of CSM and the owner of the hand we see.

I know that "Jack Colquitt" has popped up in other James Wong or Glen Morgan scripts (he was a character on American Horror Story, for example) so the Colquitt name may not be all that significant, but we'll see.

It's Diana Fowley!

Or maybe Marita Koverubias (or however you spell her crazy name)!

Or...I dunno...maybe it's Bambi!

So all the alien end of the world nonsense was a smoke screen for the actual apocalypse, which is a bunch of rich guys [Brain]Trying to take over the world![/Brain] And Cancer man survived a brace of 40mm rockets up his ass in a desert?

Couldn't they have just done "Earth under the grays" or something?

It looks like he's got some scars, at least. :p
Yeah...an attack helicopter unloads a full rack of high explosive forties in a cave where he's just throat smoking a death stick and chillin' and he walks away with scars? I want his health plan!

If it's Reyes, maybe she's playing a long game of infiltrating the Syndicate/Conspiracy/whatever-the-heck CSM is into now. Or maybe Good Ol' Mr. Spender has turned good again (or still?).

He's a Super Soldier! Or a Super Duper Soldier! That feminine hand belongs to Adam Baldwin.

I could actually see that being a joke.

Mulder: "How the hell are you alive?"
CSM: *puffs a cigarette* "I have an excellent health plan."

I thought that was great!

Well I suppose for those people who stayed with the show to the very end, but as someone who thought the conspiracy stuff was already feeling really old and tired by the 7th or 8th season, it all just felt like more of the same to me.

And for me this reboot feels even more tired and outdated when I compare it to something as bold and cool and relevant as a Mr. Robot (which actually feels like something written and inspired by the world today, instead of the world of the 90s).

Is there any way CSM could have escaped before the missiles hit? I haven't seen the finale so I don't know how that whole thing played out.
