The worst thing in Trek.

I don't know if this counts, but for modern Treks anyway how it takes a few seasons for the shows to get good. Especially since a lot of the modern Treks have the same production staff. You would think they would be able to get it right after TNG (excluding DS9 of course since it's pretty different from TNG, VOY and ENT).

Worst thing in Trek has to be the technobable. It bores me to tears. Quit the bullshit explaination's and just say what it really is "Ohhhh it's magic!"
I agree. It can get pretty bad. It can also get bad when they overlook some obvious solution, for example if the transporters are offline then use the transporters on a shuttlecraft.

Yeah, that's definately annoying. It especially got on my nerves with Enterprise, specifically during the first two seasons whenever anyone criticized the show, someone would come in and say "It's only in its first/second season. Star Trek shows don't get good until the third."

Jeez, just look at the shows that are around today that have been downright impressive from day one, it kind of makes you wonder why Trek take a few years to get rolling.

I looked forward to it. "Cool! That dude's going to die to advance the plot!" we used to say. ;)

Some of the worst things I've ever seen in Trek were from Gene Roddenberry's novelization of TMP. My God, I've never seen such CRAP in my life. James Kirk being named after his mother's "love instructor"? :guffaw: And of course the whole thing with Lori Ciana.

I dunno...in a similar vein, I personally lost interest in the new Dr. Who because he's such a morally superiour twit so much. Yeah, guns are bad. Humans are screw ups. Whatever.

You're not watching enough of the old episodes.

I can't remember any of the incidental music aside from a couple notable songs from TOS. Maybe that's a testament to how bad it was.

There are any number of things that bother me about Star Trek, just fewer than most TV series. The biggest one? Hum... the seeming lack of pop-culture in the 24th century. It seems like there hasn't been any innovation in acting, music, books... Almost every reference is to something we've heard of. It's just something that nags at me.

That bugged me too, especially in music. I really can not picture a 16 year old rocking it out to Motzart or whatever. There's gotta be something that's the equivalent to someone getting piercing or something else that's considered 'out of the norm' :p

Who is Lori Ciana? :vulcan:

Another thing that bugged me were the fanboys who complain about any and all chicks were something skimpy or tight or revealing. Just shut up and enjoy it, says I. :p

She was the other person killed in the transporter accident. She was also Kirk's wife, for a time. That wasn't the bad part, though; it's how Gene described Kirk's reaction to an earlier scene, in the novel only, where she comes to visit him.

That was kind of done out of necessity though. The producers of TNG realized that the show could very well still be watched 20+ years down the line and didn't want to make it look horribly dated by including early-90s pop culture masquerading as 24th Century pop culture. So instead they used a lot of classical music, arguing that much of that had survived a couple hundred years so it will likely continue to survive into the forseeable future.

The motion picture score for Star Trek III is the best thing I've heard ever. Just thought i'd add that.
