The Wonder Years

The Wonder Years is now on Netflix and it made me think of the episode where the characters watch Spock’s Brain. It didn’t appear that they were watching it at 10:00 at night, since the episode takes place when the third season began, so was just anothe anachronism for the show. Just thought I’d throw that out there. I guess we should more amazed that kids actually made out during the show.

I agree with scotpens, I think I would rather be making out during that particular episode. It has to be one of the stupidest story lines the writers came up with!

I have vague memories of an episode where Kevin fantasizes about Winnie being one of the women from Spock's Brain, complete with pain bracelets. The nerdy friend was dressed as Spock and everything. Is that the episode in question?

Yes, that's the one. The treat is that the costume department not only replicated the ship uniforms in exacting detail, the Eyemorg "go-go" outfits were dead on to Bill Theiss' design! They obviously had fun with this episode.

Sincerely,

Bill

What the exact episode season/number/name? I want to look it up on Netflix.

Isn’t the kid a little young to be into the kinky stuff already? Did he want Winnie to tie him up?

The emphasis of Kevin's daydream is that girls are an unfathomable mystery, strange, "alien"...much like the Eyemorgs in SB. The production did not focus on the "restraint" aspect depicted in the original Trek episode. In fact, I don't think they had the boys wearing the pain belts. Winny as the Eyemorg pressed a button upon her bracelet, we heard the famous warbling "bong" sound effect, and Kevin and the rest crumbled to the floor as though punched in their guts. Young actor Savage must have studied the original scenes because he did a fair job spoofing Shatner's mannerisms including the way Shatner collapsed in the original scene. Oh, Kevin's nerdy friend was depicted as Spock, obviously, but not as the brainless zombie from SB, thus he had the opportunity to spout off some Vulcan inflected observations. The makeup department did a pretty good job with his hair and ear tips.

Sincerely,

Bill

Dunno about DVDs but it is available for streaming

The Wonder Years is not available on DVD, at least not in season sets. I think there are a couple of "Best of" DVDs out there with different music. The reason why the season sets are not available seems to be a music rights issue.

The versions that are on Netflix also have replaced music in some instances. Even Joe Cocker's With A Little Help From My Friends during the intro is replaced. I'm glad I recorded all of them once when they aired with the original music, abet they were not uncut in length, as the versions on Netflix are.
