I had absolutely no idea this was happening.

I like the cast (Dule Hill! Don Cheadle!), so I'll probably check this out.

Given that it takes place in Alabama, during the 1960s, I'm curious to what extent the series will deal with the Civil Rights Movement and the backlash to it.

Also, the original Wonder Years was set twenty years before the series. Shouldn't a Wonder Years today be set in 2001? :)

I like that they've kept the theme song. I've kind of expected that they would use something different. I kind of wonder about the Civil Rights Movement too. To set a series in the 60's around a black family and not deal with it would be a disservice, so I have to wonder if it will be at the core of the theme.

Well, according to The Hollywood Reporter:
While the original series starred Fred Savage and revolved around a white middle-class family in the 1960s suburbs, ABC’s new take focuses on how a Black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama, in the turbulent late ’60s made sure it was “the wonder years” for them, too.

It's that last part ("turbulent late '60s"...) that tells me they won't be ignoring the Civil Rights Movement.

The advent of the Internet has become a nostalgia dividing line.

It can’t be the nostalgic cultural past if you’re staring at a screen. Unless it is a 13 inch screen on a box two feet deep that if you do not watch you will forever miss the thing being shown.

Last I heard this was not a remake, but a companion series. Sort of like, "Elsewhere at the same time..." Hopefully that is still the case.
