The Witcher - Netflix

The interesting thing is the audience fell in love with this Geralt, not the one Henry had in mind... So looks like the show runners made the correct calls.

Perhaps--Cavill has been fantastic in the role, and as I said I do really like the series. I hope Netflix keeps it around long enough to complete the story.

Dunno, I'm more of the mind that they loved the fact that Geralt was on screen in a TV series. The series was bolstered by the fact Witcher 3 was incredibly popular.

I think my biggest complaint about the series, which overall I am enjoying, is that Geralt could be more similar to the books. But also, the series deviates from the books in odd places so we miss some great moments. I really missed watching Ciri stranded in the desert, for example.

I'm honestly glad it wasn't. I tried getting into the books, ie read the first one, but found it to be so dry that I wasn't compelled to read the others.

I am little surprised they went with a new actor who is so different from Henry Cavill. If you asked me about an actor I'd want to see replace him any role, Liam Hemsworth is not a name that would have appeared anywhere on that list.
I'm not going to totally write him off in the role, since I have been surprised in the past, but I'm not optimistic at the moment.
It will certainly be interesting to see if this has any effect on the show's viewership numbers.

Of course, but TV audiences are still much bigger than the gaming audience, so it's been the opposite as well. Popularity of the show has helped boost sales of the game whenever a new season premieres.

The thing that worries me the most is that in the last week we've had a former producer shitting on the writer's room, and Cavill leaving.

So how bad is Season 3 then?

Hemsworth has to know what he's getting into. This is like going into the 4th season of Game of Thrones and saying they're recasting Cersei with Blake Lively.

It's a paycheck and maybe he thinks he's good enough to ride the show till the end

Ashton Kutcher was in the same situation with Two and a half men and that went on for 4 seasons after Charlie Sheen i believe before they called it quits.

It was 2 and a half men and literally 1 and 'half' of the cast left since the son also left the show lol.

Sure, I guess it's circuitous, where one ends up giving others a whole new experience to the IP. I still think the series wouldn't have even gotten made if it weren't the popularity of the Witcher 3. The popularity brought more awareness of the world and character of Geralt. The books otherwise were quite obscure, and I'd argue that they still are.

Also, Henry got his combat and speaking style from the games.

^ Yeah, that too! You hear Geralt, and Cavill perfectly mimicked Doug Cockle who voiced the character in the games. I'm surprised Doug Cockle doesn't have a cameo at this point. And the visuals, including his armor and medallion, are straight from the games.

There is no Geralt with out Henry Cavill.
The reason they went with Liam, is because he looks nothing like Henry or Geralt from the game. The goal is to destroy this masculing image of a male character, and replace it with weak obidient side kick like they did with MiB 4 and other Hemsworth( and it worked), and promote the trio, Yennefer, Triss and Ciri.
But the problem is they misscast both Triss and Yennefer, so they looks nothing like in games, and since few read books, they will need a to create a new audience, cause the current one is already upset greatly about the spin-off, and departure of Henry just ignted the flames.
They could go for 7 season, but 4-7 will not be popular. Also seeing how badly Netflix was doing in 2022, maybe they will cancel season 4, and end it.

Is it really important that the actors look like those in the game? I don't think so.

I've never played the game but I've seen images and read a little bit about it--I know its popular, but the images and portrayals of women seem pretty offensive to me.

:vulcan:

There's a strong wiff of red pill incel wafting from this message.

Damn writers, acting out their agenda to destroy masculine men like Starbrow and Henry Cavill and replace them with soyboys like the Hemsworths!

Edit to add:. As an FYI, Liam Hemsworths stats actually have him taller and heavier than Cavill. I think Cavill is a much better actor and screen presence but thought I'd point that out considering this post.

What the actual...

Words fail me.

Wouldn't know, I don't play games.
and since few read books

Sorry what ?
they will need a to create a new audience

No, they will need to retain the current one. Shows tend to shed viewers as they go (it shed me - I just didn't realy like it) and are unlikely to pick up shedloads of viewers at the midpoint.

With the same wig they'll be passably the same character. Unless Hemsworth does it in Aussie -

"G'day Sport - got any monsters ? Ripper !"

With right actors, you can overlook poor writing, which is very common this days. But when you already misscast such key charatcers like Triss and Yennefer, all you had was Geralt and Ciri carrying this show. And they did an awesome job, specially Henry Cavill. He really nailed Geralt character.
But now, i don't know. My only hope is what ever direction they are taking this show beyond season 3, it will be in line with Witcher 4 game. Because Witcher 4 is not about Geralt anymore, and that may reduce the importance of having an iconic character like Geralt, so the discount Hemsworth change will actually play part of transition, between Witcher trilogy game and their next journey in Witcher 4.

The series is based on the novels not the game. I cannot find anything in your post that I agree with, and combined with your previous post I find a lot of what you are saying concerning.

Wow, I completely disagree with everything you said in these two posts.
