"The Wand Company" classic Tricorder

Any guesses as to when we get more information?

Alas, I have no bloody idea when Wand will provide an update, but since I did sign for its "update list" I should get one sent right to my e-mail...whenever that may be.

Was it the lower pull out compartment for on the TOS science tricorder?

Sorry, but the phrasing is a bit ambiguous. What was "it"? Did you mean "was it in the lower pull out compartment"? Which would imply the "it" was the "Daytrom scanner"? If that was your question, then, yes, that device was stored in the bottom, put out compartment. It's roughly the same size as McCoy's medical scanner, so the Daystrom device easily stores in that bottom "bin". If you meant something different, could you elaborate?

Yes that’s exactly what I was asking. Thank you!

Yes that’s exactly what I was asking about. Thank you!

The exploration play sets are what I miss the most. Empty plastic boxes yes, but filled easily with the imagination.

I loved the empty play communicator.
But now that I could buy a real flip phone...I don’t want it.

It isn’t the same

Having a (hopefully) minor issue with my Bluetooth Comm' so I contacted The Wand Company. While exchanging e-mails with the representative, I thought I'd ask about the upcoming tricorder. As I suspected, she's under a "non disclosure contract" and couldn't reveal anything ...beyond her excitement about the product. I didn't think to ask when Wand might share the next update. Idiot me.

Why not email her again and ask when the next update will be?

She requested I e-mail her when I receive the replacement charging station (which will be around 2 weeks as the part is coming from the UK) so I'll ask her then (if I don't forget again).

Work continues on the tricorder. They emailed this teaser image out recently...

Not just a functioning screen, but mechanized functions too by the looks of it. (Although now that I think about it, that step motor is probably just for the moire disc.)

Yep...I'm on the list as well. I have the phaser and communicator and they are GORGEOUS. They're also going for like $700 now on eBay. Yikes.

I bought a phaser after they went out of production for a little less than retail, and the next day, it seemed like, they were going for 3x the original price. I was really lucky (I had dithered and dithered), but I can’t say I fully understand how the price shot up that quickly.

I love the phaser and communicator so much I’ll pull the trigger on the tricorder as soon as it comes out, assuming it looks as good as the others. They’re the only versions I’ll ever need, and they feel exactly like I imagine real ones would.

Agree. Having things like this are my personal mid-life crisis version of a guy buying a Corvette. I couldn't have nice Star Trek stuff when I was a kid (we weren't exactly poor, but my parents also sure has hell weren't going to buy me a $150 resin-cast prop of a phaser) and I've always been obsessed with props and things like that.

These are so nice and so functional....it's one of the little joys I allow myself. I still play with my Wand Co. communicator and phaser almost once per week. I don't use them for their designed purpose (a cell phone and a universal remote)...all I care about is the little sounds they make and they look/feel like I'd expect the "real McCoy" to be.

Since Tosk has already posted the "x-ray" CAD style image, here's what was stated in the "newsletter"...

It’s been 232 days since we announced that we were working on a functioning Original
Series Tricorder and you have been patient, but now an update is long overdue.

Work progresses well on the development as we overcome the challenges of creating an
exact Tricorder replica that functions properly and is a worthy companion to our
Phaser and Communicator.

I know that you are going to have hundreds of questions and I hope that these
emails, with news and tidbits of development chitchat, will answer most (if not all)
of them, as we concentrate our efforts to get this Tricorder manufactured and into
your hands.

Remember that we are a very small team and are hugely grateful for your patience, so
bear that in mind if we don’t have time to answer every question. We can assure you
that, as fans ourselves, we are as desperate as you to see this wonderful version of
the Tricorder working for fans around the world as soon as possible.

I know that we have left you hanging, but I also know that you believe (rightly so)
that this is because The Wand Company will not knowingly compromise on the details
that make our Tricorder something that you will love, as we leave no stone unturned
in our quest to make this the best ever functional replica, which is taking a bit
more of our time and concentration that we had bargained for.

Over the coming weeks, we are now at last ready to take you on a journey through
space and time as, bit by bit, we unravel the steps we have taken to bring this
iconic piece to life. So wherever you call home on this pandemic-ravaged planet of
ours, I hope you will be able to sit back and enjoy the story as it unfolds.

But before we get into the story, check out this screen grab of the latest CAD…
offering a sneak preview (if you can unpick this image) of some of the details and
functions that we will be discussing in the emails we are going to be sending you
over the coming weeks.

Big old bump.

The Wand Company brought the tricorder prototype to Tested. Adam gets a good walk through of all the features and functions. IMO Wand did an incredible job; it was a long wait but looks like it was well worth it. The only thing I'm not thrilled with is the backlit moire, since there's no mention of being able to turn the light off. (If it can be switched off, complaint retracted.)

Here's another prototype preview with the same Wand Company rep but a different host. Many of the same aspects are covered again in this video, but there are a few not mentioned in Adam's. An anticipated price is also mentioned. Originally, the projected price was going to be around 200 to 250 dollars. But with the 4+ year development cycle and rampant inflation lately, the new estimate may be more likely 300 to 350 dollars. Bugger.

@1001001 , I know the standard policy is that a thread with more than a year's delay between posts gets locked, but I can't help that the Wand Company has been on "silent running" concerning updates about this product. This is the first news in ages and @Gepard linked it the day it dropped. Please DON'T lock this thread!

Yes the rule is one year. If it’s longer, you’re supposed to start a new thread and link the old one. The Boss has been very clear about that.

I’ll let it slide this one time.
