AMC cancelled tonight's Talking Dead. Presumably for social distancing.
It may not be back until the finale, if at all.

The Walking Dead
Season 10 - Episode 12 - "Walk With Us"

Daryl / Judith: Once again, the family angle is the best moment of the episode as Uncle Daryl comforts Judith after she had to kill someone she once knew. Important scene, because he's not some little warrior just running around being a "badass". She's a child who is just leaning the consequences of all of the loss and carnage of the world in ways she never faced before (not so personal). Daryl--the building blocks of how much he will do / be there for people he truly loves dates back to his search for Sophia (season two), and in many ways, he's had more heart than characters such as Rick

Alpha / Negan: I thought Negan would kill her, but not this soon, so it was an effective shock, but the biggest of all was...

Carol plotting with Negan! So, she was the one to set him free all along. This is becoming a very intriguing turn for the ever-troubled Carol.Of course, this begs the question: did she know about the walker attack plan?

Lydia / Gamma: Poor Gamma; she knew she would never be welcomed and sacrificed herself. Lydia--another lost one; note the smile as she spotted Negan--only for the one person to give her a true chance take her as his captive. Glad she escaped from the shed. With Lydia and Aaron knowing Negan is around, there's no way the showrunners can have the heroes caught off guard again, unless Negan walks right up the "door" and announces his intentions--and Carol's involvement in all of the recent horror..

Eugene:
Rare, brief heart-to-heart between Eugene and Carol. The whole "wanting something so badly" was meant to imply Rosita, but its clear he has his mind on the mystery woman.

NOTES: The episode titled in a similar to season three's "Walk With Me". (the episode that introduced The Governor). Not sure if that was intentional.

Not much in the way of dialogue this week, but it was fantastic in continuing the devolution of Carol into...what?

GRADE: A.

Makes sense, I was looking forward to it because I presumed Samantha Morton would be on it. It prob would work without the studio audience but maybe they didn't want to risk the actors. Does Morton even live in the states? I guess if she lives in England she might not even be allowed to fly over!

It might be bootleg, but couldn't they have done a Googke Hangouts or something... not as fun as the couch...but of all episodes "needing" Talking Dead...this would top tier

TWD also has a history of shooting "farewells" while the actor is still on set, which Talking Dead will show in the appropriate episode. That said, do not be surprised to see such a clip with Morton when TD returns.

Yeah, I had thought about a remote hookup but maybe it was too last minute to set up.

Well, that sure was something. The big battle turned out to be a footnote, with this episode focusing on mostly the aftermath, and that's fine. I love a battle as much as the next guy, but there's only so much you can do with an episode centred around it. Have the battle itself being a minor plot element, and focusing on the fallout works just as well, and it certainly didn't hurt this episode any.

I'm really impressed with how Alpha was dealt with. Essentially similar to her fate in the comics, but with a unique twist, the revelation that Negan was apparently a double agent working for Carol specifically to take Alpha down. And just that alone, the fact Carol and Negan have entered into some sort of alliance really sets up a lot of fascinating story possibilities. Not to mention this is the first time we've seen Carol and Negan together on screen, and we have a promising indication it won't be the last either.

And speaking of characters who don't typically interact, is this the first time Carol and Eugene have had any kind of meaningful interaction? Regardless, their scene was a fun one for those characters, particularly with Eugene starting on his drawn-out definition of huge and Carol just cuts him off with "yeah, it's really huge."

Magna returns having survived the cave in, but has been separate from Connie. I'll admit, at this point, it's actually not looking too good that Connie's going to survive. With Magna alive and well, Connie being killed will be a way for the cave-in to carry weight. Plus, the loss of her will have dramatic implications for Daryl.

Once again, Beta's identity is teased at, continuing the implications he was a well known singer before the apocalypse with the other Whisperer commenting about how he always thought Beta's voice sounded familiar before Beta kills him presumably to keep the secret.

That was interesting, three recurring character deaths. none of which I really saw coming. Shame about Mary but she did get to bond with/save her nephew I guess. Negan killing Alpha wasn't unexpected, though it did seem very low key. Wonder how Beta will react? At the end of the day he isn't a leader so what will the whisperers do? I suppose Negan could take over, or--horror--Carol could and try and redirect them into a less dangerous force, or they could allow the tribe to collapse.

The Negan/Carol thing seemed odd, because I can't recall them even being in the same room together let alone any indication they had time to plot so at the moment it feels a little pulled out of thin air.

Some good Judith stuff, her shock at killing someone who was still alive compounded by then having to put down someone she knew who'd become a Walker.

I suspect it was Carol who helped Negan escape from his cell.

The revelation about Negan and Carol certainly raises some questions about the episode after he escaped when Daryl catches Carol leaving Alexandria and she claims she's going to search for Negan. At the time, we all likely thought what Daryl did, that she was really plotting to attack Whisperers, possibly Alpha herself. Now it seems possible she was actually intending to meet with Negan to further discuss their plan.

When Alpha was killed in the comics, Beta took control of the Whisperers and resorted to brute force tactics against the communities. Specifically, he sent the entire horde against the communities. As a result of which, after the communities dealt with the horde, there were very few Whisperers left and they were easily dealt with.

Things are probably going to be a bit different in the show. The-post Alpha storyline in the comics still took up several issues of the comic, and I'm under the impression this storyline is going to be wrapped at the end of the season. With only four episodes left, and next week's seemingly going to be focused in what Michonne's been up to since the midseason break, they're only really going to have three episodes to finish this up in. Also, the horde is in much worse shape on the show now than it was at this point in the storyline in the comics.

Any word on the Rick Grimes movie? Haven't heard much and with all that's going on with CV these days, they may want to opt for a direct-to-TV release at this point. Assuming people are going to go to theaters for anything these days may be a really bad bet.

A cinema movie wouldn't be out till much later...way past the Coronavirus shut down... they might even wait till the end of Walking Dead World Beyond...since that show seems to set a lot of this up

One would need to assume that in a world where life has been reduced to a few survival tasks, there are periods where free time would allow Carol to visit Negan on occasion, but keep that to herself. Carol has fallen so far that it would be a pleasing turn of events for her investment in Negan to have some positive end, not necessarily for the killers among the Whisperers, but for Negan alone.

The Rick movie front has been quiet. Though, I would say its production likely is suspended/delayed at the moment. Season 6 of Fear is suspended for three weeks because of the virus, and season 11 of Walking Dead has delayed the start of production.

Okay, I finally got to watch.

So it looks like Hilltop has burned to the ground. I'm really sick of this cycle where a nice thriving community gets established, and they're rebuilding civilization in the midst of the Zombie uprising, and then it all gets destroyed. Now Kingdom and Hilltop are both gone. I hope they don't abandon them, but decide to rebuild.

Now, at least, we seem to be nearing the end of the Whisperer plotline, since Negan faked out Alpha and slit her throat. The guy is still totally nuts. I don't know what to make of his conversation with Alpha about his dead wife, which seemed to be genuinely coming from a place behind his sociopathic barrier. I thought maybe he was going to stop her from killing Lydia because he couldn't bear the thought of killing a family member, or because he doesn't like to hurt kids. But then it turned out that he was playing her the whole time. And he gave her a nice little kiss as she bled out. And then, just to turn everything on its head, no pun intended, we find out that he is working with Carol. I can't imagine where this will leave Carol with Daryl and the rest of the community.

I think the Whisperers will be fairly easy to wipe out after this. Beta is not really qualified to lead, and I don't think Negan will be much interested-- I got a kick out of his pathetic attempts to herd Zombies. :rommie: And what is the deal with Beta's secret identity? It looks like he must be some kind of celebrity from the Old World-- maybe an actor or professional wrestler. Maybe he's Arnold Schwarzenegger.

In other news, Judith had to kill the old guy after his suicide attempt failed. That was not nice. She may be precocious, but she's still only a kid. And Magna and Connie did escape from the cave, but only Magna made it back-- but I'm still convinced that Connie is alive and something will happen with her and Daryl. And speaking of happening, Eugene is going to keep his date. :rommie:

There's still a few episodes left this season, and I think Maggie will be back before the end-- but, sadly, we'll be seeing the last of Michonne. I wonder if she'll get whisked away in a black helicopter, too.

In the comics Beta was a well known athlete or actor, depending on your interpretation of the reveal scene.
The show however seems to be implying he was a well known singer, with the flashback episode of him and Alpha meeting having him refer to the sounds of the dead as "music" and in this episode, the Whisperer who sees him commenting about how his voice was always familiar. But really driving this implication home is the fact that earlier in the season we hear a record being played at Hilltop which many insist sounded like Ryan Hurst (Beta's actor) singing, and then there was an episode of Fear the Walking Dead last season in which we see a record album which does appear to have a photo of Ryan Hurst on the cover. When asked about these examples, Hurst gave a cagey non-answer about whether or not it really was him, though at least in the case of the photo on Fear, the manner in which he responded does seem to imply it was him.

Interesting. Thanks for that info. I wonder if that's just character and world building, or if it will become a relevant plot point.
