'The Visitor' the sadest episode of DS9?

The Visitor is about a father's love for his boy and vice versa/

I think that's probably my big reason for not rating the episode as high as a lot of others. My father was a deadbeat, and I've never really had that father figure in my life, so the major connection, the love between a father and son, isn't there for me.

I think it's a good episode, especially for Jake, who fell by the wayside as the Dominion War storyline began to dominate more screentime, but it's not in my top ten.

That's nailed it to be honest. It does rely on that to carry the episode so anyone who doesn't have a sparkling relationship with their father probably won't be as keen.

Just coming at this from another angle, what did people think of its positioning in season 4, right after Way of the Warrior?

It worked for me, and I'm not especially fond of my father. I still get a little teary watching it.

It makes me wish I got along better with one...and kind of scares me in the sense that it makes me wonder how I'll deal when my parents pass away...kind of hoping not at the same time.

Maybe not the saddest, but one of the most compelling family-oriented episodes in all Trek.

The only problem I have with this episode is they should have cast a "future Nog". He looks ridiculous.

I don't remember Nog, but I had a bigger problem with Dax's and Bashir's ridiculous old-age makeup.

The ending maybe wasn't the saddest, but the scene where Sisko realises that future Jake's thrown away his life for him, that was quite astonishing. I re-watched The Visitor recently and then the next day I saw Tony Todd playing a psychotic killer on the X-Files, which was weird!
