The unofficial Rock Band thread.

After several weeks of metal, it's good to get something else this week. We'll definitely be picking up the Devo/Duran Duran tracks. I think that will leave us just five songs short of 200 in our Rock Band song library.

I was excited for Devo, until I listened to the songs and realized I had no idea what they were. I did get the two Duran Duran tracks. "Rio" is a super easy song for most of the way through and then out of nowhere it totally kicked my ass! :(

Don't have any details about price, but the download for the week of Aug. 24 is the complete album of "Moving Pictures" by Rush. It includes original versions of Limelight and Tom Sawyer, not the already-existing covers in the game.

The first song to download for Rock Band 2 is available! "Still Alive" by GLaDOS. :p

Update: Rush's "Moving Pictures" will cost $10.99 (880 Microsoft Points) for the full album, or $2 (160 MSP) each.

Tom Sawyer
Red Barchetta
YYZ
Limelight
The Camera Eye
Witch Hunt
Vital Signs

It looks like the 5 dollar price for the RB1 import is confirmed. And you can just rent the disc and do it if you're getting RB2.

Songs for the week of Aug. 31:

PAX Pack 1
(all proceeds go to Child's Play Charity)

"Skullcrusher Mountain" - Jonathan Coulton
"Livin' on the Corner of Dude and Catastrophe" - MC Frontalot
"Shhh…." - Darkest of the Hillside Thickets

All proceeds go to the Child's Play Charity.

Hopefully that\s still available a couple of weeks from now.

I find it odd that the Rush album failed certification though...

Announced albums (but with no release dates yet):

  • Foo Fighters - The Colour and the Shape
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
  • Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking
  • Megadeth - Peace Sells... But Who's Buying
  • Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood
  • No Doubt - The Best of... Rock Band Edition
Also, Rush's "Moving Pictures" might be available in about a month.

Downloads for the week of Sept. 7:

All That Remains
three-pack (the usual 99 cents/80 points bargain titles)
Chiron
This Calling
Two Weeksa

Just wanted to bring up the fact that the best song ever, "Charlene" by Stephen and the Colberts is available for free now! And I thought it was going to come out next week. It's too bad that the song is so short though. :(

As for next week... Ripped from Joystiq:

After some tinkering, I got my drumset working again. I was looking for replacement kick pedals online when it struck me how much some of those kick pedals looked like my high-hat control pedal for my drum kit. Lo and behold, it works as a trigger for Rock Band as well, so now I've got a really, really sturdy pedal for the game. I also purchased the silencing pads, and so far it is much quieter while still getting the same response.

I am all set for RB2! Though the Force Unleashed will be taking up most of my free time for the near future.

FYI, Rock Band 2 (game-only) comes out as an Xbox 360 exclusive on Sunday. All other consoles, as well as the complete bundle with instruments, come out Oct. 19.

Ugh. I wish the whole bundle came out tomorrow, I'd buy it no questions asked.

Picked my copy up today and imported the RB 1 songs. Now I can sell RB1 towards The Force Unleashed. Since we can do the campaign on line, anyone want to do a TBBS band?

We could do a Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty line-up.

I messed around with it for a bit and I am glad that Hyperspeed is back! Plus they now made chords into hammer-ons (which feels great).

I ordered mine from Amazon - saved 16 bucks - but of course, I have no idea when it'll arrive.
I'd also need to grab a hard drive to do the Rock Band song transfer... although, I'll probably keep the disc for the three songs. Well, unless they're going to do a non-cover version of Paranoid sometime soon.

I hear it's 1.6 gigs?

Closer to 1.5 I believe. I can't believe how many songs are in this game. I decided to not use the unlock code and so far I've gotten 43/84 songs playable.

Some of the early songs suck IMO, but they have been getting more and more awesome with each tier. Having the crowd sing "Anyway You Want It" is pure win.

That's my favourite undocumented feature. If you FC a section, the audience sings with you.
In fact, that's probably the worst aspect of the DLC... they don't have time to mix that into the track.
