The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

God love him, but it's going to be hard for anyone to top Raul Julia in that role.
Julia was a damn fine actor, but that was a pretty poor film for him to end his career with.

Of course, there’s no guarantee that this new one will be any better but Dastmalchian’s performance in Late Night With The Devil is one of the best genre performances I’ve seen in years.

He's very good in Murderbot as well.

It says something about Julia that despite it obviously being a terrible film (though it used to be a guilty pleasure of mine) he gives such a bloody good performance.

I mean also, Kylie and Ming-Na Wen!

A lot of actors end their careers on bad movies, whether by death or because they only get offered bad movies or because making that movie made them quit show business all together. Nicholson, Hackman and Connery simply walked away after making stinkers.

Abraham's Boys: A Dracula Story -- is Abraham Van Helsing just a crazy man or is everything he's said and done real? Seems along the lines of a Frailty type of movie.

A terrific fright fest says Stephen King about the film based on a short story by his son...

Is this going to be the latest Bruckheimer legacy sequel? Not sure how it would work without Hackman (and the general magic in a bottle of the original cast, writers and director) but as I’d watch anything that Denzel does (though he’s not a given either, at this stage).

As a tremendous fan of the original, the prospect of a Scrubs reboot makes me very nervous (although I suppose it can't be much worse than the horrible final season of the original), especially considering that Bill Lawrence won't be able to serve as showrunner. I'd love it to be good, but I do worry.

What's interesting is that, for the past many years, I've been pretty persistently seeing the Zach Braff/Donald Faison comedy pair appearing in lots of commercials and spots, almost in some indirect effort to keep their Scrubs personae alive. Will it really be a hard reboot, or maybe a "Scrubs: The Next Generation" in the same universe where Dorian and/or Turk are Chief Surgeons and Cox (John C. McGinley) the new director of the hospital after Kelso retired/died?

Update: After reading further down, it does seem to be more of a continuation than reboot, stating, "...and star Zach Braff, who will reprise his role as John 'J.D.' Dorian..."

So, cool! Loved that show. :)

At this stage a remake would make more sense than a sequel, IMO. At this point, the submarine's entire crew from the first one would be retired from active military service, meaning a sequel would have to introduce a new cast anyway.

Washington would probably be a Admiral at this point, wouldn't he? Maybe he works close to the President of the United States and they but heads over whether or not the President should drop a nuke on Russia, when Intel comes in they are considering a first strike because their is a leadership change at the top of their government. In my head Canon the President should be Nick Cage.

I've watched a number of interviews with the cast, and part of what made "Scrubs" the show that it was, was it wasnt' a series of sets -- they actually used a real building, made it a giant set, and would lock out studios personnel so they could do what they wanted and get away with things that would never fly today. It was an alignment of stars and a cast that seemingly got on very well (for the most part). This just can't be re-captured, plus, seeing J.D. older but still being a hot mess with relationship issues, would be a huge disappointment.
