Maybe the killer will be the one who keeps living the same day over and over. He has to kill the female character that would be the hero in most horror movies or the day will keep repeating itself but she is smart and hard to kill, such as such characters are in horror movies. AMC is going to adapt a "different celebrated work, historical moment, or individual narrative celebrating and highlighting the American spirit" into a miniseries every year. First up is The Grapes of Wrath. I suppose the movie is too old for people who normally complain that Hollywood is running out of ideas. They probably wouldn't know it was also a novel.
