If that's so, that's even sadder. It's like having those guys in the MoCap suits testing better than the final results.

Consider me intrigued at this stage. Funnily enough, just a few days ago I was digging through my old books looking for a specific old Star Trek novel I was interested in re-reading when I stumbled upon my copy of Starship Troopers. Might give it a re-read in the near future in light of this news.Okay, I am SO here for this, as the kids probably don’t say anymore

I hated the Verhoeven movie, so I don't really want to explore that world further.
The one remake that lied about going back to the source material was Total Recall because they just ending up redoing the Arnold movie with a much softer edge. We shall see how Running Man turns out.
The Julia Roberts movie Mirror Mirror was along those lines. And quite a fun movie at that for a live adaptation that likely has done a better job with the story than this one.
1. Running Man wasn't Verhoven.
2. I'd love to see a Running Man that more closely followed the Stephen King novel.

Mixed feelings. It does look pretty decent... but I'm worried that if it does well, Disney will keep doing these live action remakes. Many if not most of which are cinematic dreck.

Normally I pay them no attention as they're not really my thing, either the source material or the shot for shot remake. I kinda like the look of this one as I have slight soft spot for the original.
"The Jungle Book" was better than the original because it dropped the "Mowgli gets girly-whipped" ending. And "Beauty and the Beast" was Ok because I like Emma Watson and it was fun to see Josh Gad play LeFou as "gay AF but still hiding it... sort of".

Eventually, I am hoping that fiduciary-minded bean counters with actual business acumen will realize Disney’s been losing more money than gaining over these types of projects and propose a rationale to return to more traditional animated media.
The problem with their live-action remakes is that most of them have gotten successively worse with each release, and it's like they've forgotten the reason why people go to the movies.
This one does at least look like it captures the spirit of the original.
You're probably thinking of the most recent one from 2016, but that wasn't even the first live-action remake of the story Disney had done, the first one in 1994, which seems to have mostly been forgotten.
I already covered this. both the dwarves and the bandits are in the movie. when they switched from a Prince to a Robin Hood type they gave him his own group of 7 companions.
I vaguely remember that being in my video rental place back in the day, didn't realise it was Disney. lol
I don't think many people remember it. It starred Jason Scott Lee, Cary Elwes, Lena Headey, and Sam Neil, and even John Cleese, which is quite a cast. It was one of those earlier efforts, from an era where there were a lot more adventure movies being made.
