The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

Suits L.A. is a go on NBC, but no word on if it's going to be a mid-season replacement or being saved for next fall.

Mindy Cohn says there was talk about reviving The Facts of Life, but one of the female leads went behind everyone's backs and tried to get her own spinoff without them so the whole thing is dead.

I guess, those are the true ... facts of life.

Well, of the four main cast members, I doubt Nancy McKeon had anything to do with it. Same goes for Kim Fields. That leaves Lisa Whelchel; which makes some sense as she was set to star in the spin off when the original series was canceled, where she would have taken on the role of Mrs. Garrett to a new set of girls at the college.

Michael C. Hall returns for Dexter: Resurrection. And it takes place after New Blood.

New Day of the Jackal trailer is here. Not sure I even knew they were remaking it. Eddie Redmayne looks more in keeping with fellow Edward, Mr Fox, than Bruce Willis, while Lashana Lynch is hopefully channelling her 007 mood again.

I don't know how they are going to make a modern "9 to 5" work in a post Metoo world. The boss will likely end up having to be some nerd who is more interested in replacing his workers with automation and outsourcing and than being some overt sexist guy who is part of the ole boys club. Unless the movie wants to look dated and not relevant to the modern workplace. I have my doubt Cody can deliver on such a movie. Her style really fits better in the early 2000's.

Oh I think sexism is still a thing but not that cliche thing where he chases his secretary around his desk like the boss in the movie.. That Mad Men type of approach. I am thinking things are probably more subtle in this day and age. Not only do we have MeToo but more women in positions of authority but also your dealing with many people who grew up in the 80's and 90's. IMO lots of things in society changes but change doesn't always means something goes away so much as it takes another form.

According to Diablo Cody it's going to be Baby Boomers vs Gen X/Z, where the Boomers don't respect the boundaries of Gen X/Z.

That could work.I do wonder if Cody is the write something that subtle but I am thinking they would need to expand the cast. it can't be just 3 women in service roles and just one boss guy. . I am thinking a good model would maybe to dig into some of that stuff in regards to Elon Musk and his employees. Not all of that was even really sexual in nature. It was things like him wanting people to sleep at work and things of that nature. A culture class of sorts.
