The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

I just saw a commercial for a stage adaptation/musical of 'Christmas Vacation' called 'The Griswold's Christmas Vacation' coming to Seattle.

There's a Randy Quaid Vacation spinoff TV movie from 2003 and they actually titled it Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure. That would be like Die Hard with a Vengeance 2: The Chronicles of Zeus.

It did have Dana Barron as a redeeming factor, but was pretty rubbish otherwise

Yeah, that movie. Yuck! I almost made a mention of it earlier. Nobody wants to end up shipwrecked on an island with Cousin Eddie. Just plain torture. Even Ed Asner couldn't save it.

Ally McBeal is apparently being brought back, but as the mentor to a new, African American, female attorney. https://screenrant.com/ally-mcbeal-sequel-show-confirmed-black-female-lead/

Am I the only one thinking of “Uncle Brazzos” from “Only Murders in the Building” right now?

I think Callista Flockheart could play dementia...

Wasn't there already an Ally McBeal reboot that failed?

Well, there was that Futurama episode...

And that weird-ass Super Friends episode where the Hall of Justice winds up in Oz.

I'm not sure which is stranger, to be honest.

I remember there being animated Wizard of Oz shorts very early Saturday mornings. I still remember the theme song ("Well the land of Oz is a funny funny place where every one has a funny funny face..."). It ran every second Saturday, alternating with the Filmation Hercules cartoon ("Hey Herc! Hey Herc!"). They were the beginning of my Saturday cartoon binge back in the day.

Between hallucinating dancing babies, literally sniffing good-looking guys' butts and the like, one could argue Ally was suffering from early onset dementia during the show's entire run. ;-)

HBO Max is making an actual Christmas Story sequel with much of the original cast. It's set in the '70s and will come out Nov. 17.

Not to be confused with the unrelated A Christmas Story 2 which recast everyone.

Well, if it has some of the original cast, maybe it stands a chance. I think the other sequel was based on one of the books and set during summer in the 50's, but even then, I don't think it's been the first attempt.

I prefer that to the second one. It wasn't great and as much as I like Daniel Stern he just lacked the gruffness of the original dad.

I believe they were both based off of stories from the same book: ""All Others Pay Cash," which, If I'm being honest, has a decidedly darker, more serious tone than the movies let on.

I will enjoy seeing the cast, but will sorely miss Darren McGavin. His "Old Man" was my favorite part of the original. So many quotable lines.

Multiple studios and streamers are reportedly interested in the rights to The NeverEnding Story. The biggest issue throughout the years has been who owns what. There have been lawsuits in Germany over ownership of this property.

It's the year 4031. Humans have left earth and settled on Mars. Next to the Dome cities of Mars is a jungle in a Dome as well. A illness has stricken one of the Dome cities making everyone sick. Doctor Jane Porter has been asked to go into the jungle with a United Mars battle unit comprised of soliders from each of the Dome cities and a robot battle bot to go into the jungle and explore the plant life and look for a cure.

The troops are there because the jungle has a cross between vicious old earth animals and hybrid ones made by combing Mars DNA found years ago with animals to create new animals. They all live in the Dome. Well Jane goes in and soon most of the others are killed except the comic sidekick and the battle bot.

They are rescued by Tarzan. A sexy human and hell lets just admit it. Tarzan is Chris Hemsworth. He is human who grew up by himself with the animals. How he got left behind in the Dome is unknown but as the movie goes on we find out he went in with his parents as a kid to explore the Dome for a cure. It seems this disease infecting the Dome cities was created in a lab by evil Big Pharma metaphor men.

His parents were killed and the only reason they didn't release the disease years ago was for plot reason. He helps Jane find the cure. Protects her from the animals and then returns to the Dome cities so together they can confront the bad evil people and save all the humans from dying from the disease.
