The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

Oh, yeah. I remember that. He also did it in Coming to America, although I sadly haven't gotten around to seeing the sequel yet, so I don't know if he did it there either.

It's why I thought it would be fitting that someone would do an AI Eddie all these years later doing the same thing. :)

When Eddie finally passes on, we need a series of Beverly Hills Cop films, where his character will be played by a white guy. A white French guy.

AI will remake movies using the casting choices that almost happened. Sylvester Stallone in Beverly Hills Cop, Tom Selleck in Raiders of the Lost Ark, Dougray Scott in X-Men, Pierce Brosnan in The Living Daylights, Eric Stoltz in Back to the Future, Denzel Washington in Seven, Michael Madsen in Pulp Fiction.

The Today Show interviewed Eddie Murphy about his upcoming movie and he took the time to announce that he is the new Inspector Clouseau for series of movies on Amazon Prime.
Makes sense in that Amazon owns the MGM library and they want to monetize their properties.
If Eddie was going to take over a role from Steve Martin as the latest* version of a classic comedy character, he’d have been much better suited to Bilko - his motormouth patter would’ve lent itself well to the good sergeant way better than Steve did circa 1994. Though obviously neither of them could match Phil Silvers.

*I nearly typed “third” but remembered Alan Arkin’s Inspector Clouseau film. And IIRC Roger Moore cameoed as a post-plastic surgery Clouseau in one after Sellers died, while Roberto Benigni was in Son of the PP.

Speaking of Alan Arkin and the current state of geopolitical diarrhea, particularly in Europe, I wonder if it isn't time for a reboot of "The Russians Are Coming".

It was an insanely funny Cold War movie that had some serious heart to it, and perhaps it could be retooled and upgraded to reflect the current situations in a humorous way. I'm sure some folks would hate the idea, though.

Well, c'mon.....244 murders over 12 years in the same neighborhood committed by an obviously evil actress who was too paranoid to play Nurse Ratched while having no problem with croaking someone every seven days as long as some washed-up actor took the rap.
How she entices them...
