The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

The Mads Mikkelsen Danish black comedy/drama Another Round is being remade with Chris Rock as director.

Yeah, and the trailer for the live-action Snow White is far from appealing. I don't get the appeal of their live-action remakes. I'd actually prefer, if they had to do remakes, to remake them using 3D animation. Which would update them and modernize them but keep the essence. Nobody's the fairest in the new version of Snow White.
My problem with it is that it's ANOTHER apdation of the story and I'm sick of it

Oppenheimer 2: Critical Mass

They just need to do a crossover. Kenheimer working on behalf of the United Ken States of Mattel drops a nuclear bomb toy on Barbieland. Breaking All the Dream houses into thousands of pieces and destroying all the Barbie's clothes. Barbieland is now post apocalyptic Barbieland. Barbie and Ken from the first movie join forces wih GiJoe to fight against Kenheimer and the United States of Mattel and also rebuild Barbieland.

The IP?! It's a Grimm's fairy tale, it's been in public domain over a century before Disney did the animated film.
Yes, it's a Grimm's fairy tale but it's still a Disney IP per their version of the story. It's an adaptation. And by doing a remake, it keeps their legal stuff alive rather letting it lapse. Same with their version of Robin Hood; they changed enough of it to make their own version, and I suspect it will eventually get remade too.

Yes, sure, they have the copyright on their version, but that copyright is gonna lapse regardless of the remake. Not to mention that that copyright lapse isn't due for another decade or so.

It's simply the case that Disney has had great success with the live-action remakes of their animated classics, and Snow White's one of the few they hadn't remade yet.

In certain cases, they even remake the remake. It was the case for the Jungle Book. I was surprised to learn that their most recent version, the CGI ive-action version, was not their first remake they had made, that there was a version with Jason Scott Lee in 1994.

I don't know if that is really a remake, or rather a different adaptation of the source material. For starters, it has Mowgli as an adult. There actually was a Direct-to-Video prequel with kid Mowgli in 1998.

Oh, I know there were sequels and prequels, and in animated format. In this case though I do remember this being a theatrical release and a pretty widely publicized one at that, and it was probably one of their earliest live-action takes. I just never ended up seeing it at the time. I can see why Disney felt the need to redo it again in 2016, as the CGI does it much better justice and the 1994 version is pretty rough.

There's also a non-Disney live-action take on Netflix that is quite a bit darker than what Disney put out and I thought it was quite good.

They might as well try to finally remake THE TOWERING INFERNO starring Cruise, Ford, Jackson, Johannsen, Eastwood, Saldana, Tarantino, Fonda, Diesel, Schwarzenegger, Hanks and Roberts, now that I've mentally recast the thing. If they use all original dialogue without changing a word it just might work.

Travolta's career is bad off enough, once again they can likely get him to come back. They should get Ron Funches to do the baby's voice. I think he has a great voice.
I wonder would they bring back Travolta without Alley? Will they recast or acknowledge her passing by killing off her character? Or will it be new actors or characters entirely?

I don't think they even need to be the same characters. Given how much time has passed, they could either be the descendents of the kids we originally saw, or a new family entirely. The concept itself is very loose, in that there are many things that can be done with it and not tie themselves down to a specific family.
