Rogue One had better antagonists. As much as I like Idris Elba AND Krall's backstory, Krennick, Tarkin and Vader were just... Outstanding.
That's one thing I forgot in my post, Rogue One definitely had the better villains.

Hm, when the thread started, Beyond had a significant lead, but now it's down to a five-point difference. Interesting.

Anyhow, anyone who's enjoyed this vote/thread should also vote in the The Force Awakens vs. Rogue One thread in the Star Wars subforum. :bolian: As of now, the voting is a dead even 9-9.

Rogue One, easy. Beyond was okay but RO I have to see again. The uplifting tragedy was sublime for the genre.

I liked both movies, but I have to give the edge to Rogue One. Beyond was better than the other 2 Abrams movies for me, but they went in some directions I didn't like, and ultimately, it was just a glorified Star Trek episode. A pretty good Star Trek episode, but there was nothing about it for me that was special. Worse, this was Star Trek's 50th anniversary, and the movie was so ordinary. Paramount really blew their chance to capitalize on that milestone, especially in light of how amazing Doctor Who did with their 50th not so long ago. So I was disappointed with that.

It was good, but not great.

Rogue One on the other hand, was a movie that I really enjoyed. I never felt bored during it. And as others have pointed out, the ending was just off the charts good. I actually liked Rogue One better than Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

I give both movies a Thumbs Up, but Rogue One left me walking out of the theater very happy while Star Trek Beyond left me merely somewhat satisfied.
