The UFO Stigma

Very interesting Psychiatro-Logical Oral Health Thread!

First, a question occurs to me, based upon a couple of quotes:

Is there a difference between "at the bottom" and "on the bottom"?

As to the UFO Stgma Question:

There will be strong evidence of extra-terrestrial visits when that evidence makes itself known. Until that point, it is just conjecture.

^On the bottom seems (to me as a non-native english-speaker) that you are placed upon something that is the physical bottom of something else, whereas at the bottom of something means there is a scale you can't progress further downwards on...

On the bottom = outside something (There is gum on the bottom of your shoe)
At the bottom = inside something (Your shoe is at the bottom of the ocean)

Sounds perfectly reasonable. (I'm sure language-people will have some weird explanation that says the same using more words with more syllables (some might even be in latin)).

Funny mention here, since in/at/on refer to orientation in both space and time. It is the English language's attempt to map the spacetime continuum with particles (but not waves).
||||||| GRAMMAR HUMOR ALERT |||||||

"In" is broad, "on" is narrow, and "at" is pinpoint location, in both space and time.

Or as is expressed in Latin, Reginarum rosae sunt pulchrae.

We really must share a beverage and some Conversation, sometime!

Does alien life exist? Almost certainly.

Does intelligent alien life exist? Very probably.

Is that life channeling the vast energies required to cross the inconceivable distances between stars in order to allow unbelieveably poor quality images to be taken of them, chop up some cows, and butt-probe a smattering of rural Kentuckians?

Almost certainly not.

I would describe myself as an agnostic regarding UFOs. I don't know if there is anything to it.

But I can take seriously the idea that there may be life out there, because of the astronomically large number of stars in the universe. Sheer numbers of different environments might by sheer chance result in viable biospheres on a few planets.

I can even take seriously the idea that there is intelligent life out there. Consider the idea that we may exist. (Actually, that might not be a good example of intelligent life). An implication is that organisms comparable to ourselves may exist.

There is a catch..... Two, actually.

The astronomical distances, which are truly beyond human comprehension. And the vastness of time.

Even if "slowboats" to the nearest stars prove workable, we may never contact an intelligence in another galaxy.

There probably are aliens, they just wouldn't bother contacting primitives like us. What would we have to offer them, anyway?

Premium Membership in "Trek BBS"?...

My own beliefs on the subject were best summed up by Ted Arroway (David Morse, in Contact) when he delivered Carl Sagan's words in the line,

“The universe is a pretty big place. If it's just us, seems like an awful waste of space.”

I always find videos and photos of UFOs amusing because they are ALWAYS out of focus. Believers however will conjure up all kinds of explanations to why this is so.

^I don't recall, has anyone posted this yet:

In case nobody has expressed this particular thought yet... I tend to agree with the simple yet wise words spoken by Calvin to Hobbes: "Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us."
